I got half way through a single rail rebuild before I found that the reason it was so noisy was the layshaft cluster had worn itself oval on the inside and was good for nothing but garden ornaments.

As a result I've got a small pile of bits - bearings, synchros, gaskets, that sort of thing - which would be handy for anyone who is rebuilding a single rail box. Anyone fancy them?

Hi Dave.

As the layshaft cluster is very expensive to replace I do wonder if it would be possible and cost effective to get someone to machine out the damage and to fit sleeves.

Is is another part the club could be collecting to be able to send a batch away for machining at some point.

Just a thought.

Does anyone have contacts that could quote for this?
