Hello everyone, (so sorry, but bear with me) :bluewave:
Was looking for a “introduce yourself” section but couldn’t see one, so here goes, it’s a little long winded.

I’ve been a long term spitfire owner (ongoing restoration) and a CT member, and was a boy during the professionals era, loved seeing them thrash around in the sprint, then one day a few years ago I started reading someone’s resto threads (my small homage to him with my forum name, never met him, but love his work) and got me back into Wanting a dolly.
Roll on to now, after having a unexpected divorce thrown on me, house move, re married (I will never learn haha) I lost my old forum details, changed mail etc etc so that why the new name.
Anyway enough of all the bla bla before you fall asleep!
Sprints seem to be asking a high price now, so I started looking for an 1850. With the help of my Dutch friend I have just bought a really tidy 1850, with lots of spares.
The chap was breaking and collecting dollies mainly for nearly 30 years, (they said at one point he was breaking nine sprints)I went to see the 1850 but was amazed at. How much stuff was there. Sadly he passed away and now the family want to sell the house, so they said it’s all or nothing. I made my offer, they accepted and now I’m here.
I will be going through it all to itemise it as best I can but basically there is on initial looking

Front wings used, front panels, front nose top edge, some other panels.
Doors used but perfect condition
Bonnets, boots, 9 front and rear screens,1/4 lights complete with rubbers, axles, gearboxes, engines, wheels, sub frames, propshaft, steering racks, door glasses (more than 40 off)
Fuel tanks, dash boards both LHD and RHD, gauges, under dash panels, dash foam padding, front spoilers, badges, starter motors, alternators, carburettors, light lenses, steering columns, tunnel covers,
Interior trim, exterior trim (more than you can shake a stick at)
The list gorges on, its mind boggling. Most is used from scrapped vehicles, but there are some N.O.S. Parts too.

So my idea is to sell it on, but I only brought it home yesterday, and I have been rearranging things to fit it all in.
I’m sorry to be blunt but this has to be said.
I have a full time job and am trying to turn my hobby into a job with my best friend (restoring old cars) and I have a family so please bear that in mind and be patient with me. I don’t want hundreds of mails asking for this and that. Once I have a more definitive list I will post again.
I was thinking about stonleigh but I have to weigh up the cost to get there, I live in Belgium now so that adds to the expense of getting across. I need a big van!

You are more than welcome to come over to buy stuff, the kettle is always on for a nice cup of PG tips.
Or even if a few of you want things, get a list together and a van and come over.

Anyway once again so sorry for the length of this thread, I’m embarrassed. But nice to meet you (for those that don’t know me)

Regards
Shaun (my back hurts and I ache from moving all those parts) :D

Hi Shaun! Welcome to the forum.
If you happen to have a diff from a Dolomite automatic in the horde I would be interested.
Regards, Sam

Does that mean you are not the "Shaun the Sheep" of Binglish fame on the CT forum?

Belgium? I'm often in Belgium for technical training. The tech centre is in Erembogem, and I stay in a hotel in Ghent. Is that near? I fly into Brussels and can either use other peoples transport or rent a car.

Haha Sam, yes it’s me.
How you doing? Hope you are fine matey, It’s been a while.

There are 4 rear axles from an 1850. Not sure if auto or manual cars gave them up, and one sprint axle but that’s going under my dolly along with the sprint box. :D

I’m in Oudenaarde 9700, so not too far from Ghent. Let me know when you are next over.

Cheers
Shaun

Sorry for my confusion in my first post, but I’ve had a lot of messages about sprint axles and gearboxes. I think because I said they said at one point he was breaking 9 sprints, he must have used or sold the axles and boxes from them.
There is only available 1850 axle and boxes.
The one sprint axle and box is going into my dolly :D

Thanks and sorry

The manual and auto are different ratios, since the 1850 I have is an auto I'd like to keep the right ratio and rebuild a diff off the car (so it's not off the road for the rebuild!) I'll check and see if they can be identified by the diff/axle number.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope you are ok!
When we were over for the 10CR last year we went to Ghent before the start.... my wife is an artist and we couldn't miss the chance to see the Van Eyck alter piece.

Regards,
Sam

Hmm, planning on going to Spa in May next year. But in a Spitfire, so not much (ie zero) space...

Did you not have some massive go-anywhere vehicle a few years ago? guess it may cost a few quid in fuel though

Ah yes the 10CR, I remember at one point (can’t remem which country now) but pulling into a service station for fuel, seeing your car, looking right then seeing you all sat at the table enjoying your food!
Good times, hopefully more to come.
I will have another look at the axles, see if I can see anything, will look in the workshop manual too!

I’m doing ok now thanks, said I would never get serious with anyone again, then went and met a wonderful lady! She moving in in October  but this one likes cars! :smooch: life has some strange curveballs
Yes Clive my old stolly, 2-3 mpg if your lucky, but will go anywhere haha

You have lots of room, you don’t need to carry any spares!

Sorry we are making this thread a general chat now

Sam,
In the good old Haynes book it states

Ratios
3.63:1 manuals
3.27:1 auto box

I will have to dig out the axles again and have a butchers

Hey Sam,

Is yours originally an auto or you putting an auto box in?
I ask because I just found in one of the boxes the auto gear lever!

He definitely broke some auto cars, from finding that plus one or two of the old vin tags come from autos (vin tags are going to be scrapped)

Cheers
Shaun

Binny (our car) is definitely an original auto.

Shaun, I've merged both of your threads. Hopefully, it isn't disjointed!
