I've made a start on the headlining. Everything came off bar the seatbelt top mounts. This are the visors before and after the first coat of paint.

I could well be wrong James....

Hence the parts book comment. Sadly gone are the days when I had 3 or 4 1850's around to refer to. Mine has a TR7
lump which I didnt fit and like I said its fitted on the other side and other way up to Dave's...:-)

I guess its job is to restrict the rotational movement of the engine which will be counter to the direction of rotation. If you rev it up you will see it twist a bit, so you want the restrictor to stop it twisting in that direction....

So thinking about it if mine is the other side and working as it should, Dave's will be having the same effect and restricting
the rotational movement a little.

I THINK the idea of it is to resrict the dropping movement of the engine if a mounting goes soft or breaks - but i've a long history of being wrong - almost as long as that of the parts list!

I've put a 2nd coat of emulsion on the headlining. I've also bagged THESE speakers on ebay. I just need some speaker wire and some double-sided adhesive pads.

Going back to the restrictors, I think that Steve could be on to something. I have one on each side and I've noticed that the engine doesn't vibrate as much on idle as before since I refitted the nearside one. Just after the 2012 MoT, I'd noticed that the exhaust was knocking on the body and I thought that removing the nearside restictor might give the exhaust a bit more room to stop the knocking. I ended up fitting an autobox bracket (the wrong one as it happens. I should've got the early one) which cured the knocking and I'd never refitted the restrictor until now. The paint on my headlining should've dried by now so I'm hoping that 2 coats will have been enough. It definitely needed 2 coats. I've got plenty of paint left (I bought a 2.5 litre tin which was just shy of £7 from my local Wilko). I'll know when I get back home from work.

The 2nd coat of paint has dried and it looks great.

That's another job crossed off the list.

I managed to pop a fuse when at some point when I removed or refitted the interior light so I had to go down to the local Halfords to get some replacements. The nearest they had was 15 amp so I bought a pack of 2. I forgot to get some speaker wire when I was down there but it can wait until I get the speakers.

While I remembered, I refitted the throttle springs the "right" way round to please the purists. It doesn't seem to have made any difference.
Image

Remaining jobs:
Fit the speakers when they have been delivered. I'll need some speaker wire and some double-sided adhesive pads.
Replace the diaphragm on the driver's seat.
Mount the trip reset bracket properly.
Fit a switch for the heated rear window.
Investigate the oil leak.
Get or make a new strap for the washer bottle bracket.
Get some more colour on the car.
Sort out the dent on the offside rear wing.

You would only have noticed when one of the broader hooks made the linkage catch or stick open...

Not what you want on an auto especially....

So there was a reason for it. It never occurred to me. Better to prevent a problem than to have found out the hard way. It is my local meeting tonight so I won't have time for any work on the car.

That headlining looks the nuts, I'd say that from the photos it's even up to my standards! Shame mine was ripped on the D posts.

Oh feck! The speakers were delivered today but they weren't as described so I've contacted the seller and I was offered a full refund along with the return postage so I've just sent them back by the same method (Hermes). This means I'm back on the hunt for some speakers. I'd bought some speaker wire and double sided adhesive pads so I'm ready for the next set of speakers. Undeterred, I decided to paint the bonnet. I still had some pound shop primer so I used up what I had left. It doesn't matter too much because I wasn't leaving it like the last time. Here are the various stages of the painting.

It isn't perfect but it will do. I might give it another coat of Russett.

I've been having electrical problems which have been down the the ignition fed connections at the fusebox. I've cleaned them up to restore normal service but I think I should really take the fusebox out and clean it up properly. I've also got some more paint on the rear part of the bootlid, NSR door and a corner of the roof but there seems to have been a reaction. It is either down to the conditions or the etch primer I used before. The pound shop primer for all it's faults never caused a reaction.
