After the hassle with the starter motor all went well this morning, the guy turned up on time and done his magic it turned out whilst chatting to him that he done his training as a lad on BL cars so he knew his stuff.Within ten minutes the car was started and running quite rough but running then we checked compression as it seemed to be running a cyclinder short but all was fine traced it to a dodgy sparkplug once that was changed it fired up better and revved up well so we then turned to ballancing the carbs using a bit of tube.
Now all that is done the engine is coming out tmrw now i know all is well for a lick of paint and change a few bits just out of interest any one got any suggestions on what bits to do i dont want to take the head off but things like electronic dizzy, tdc sparks tubes, spin on filter are on the list to do but should i do oil pump, water pump, timing chain etc.I also had another member on here look at my spare dolly and he agrees it is in quite a bad way so i am going to take the parts off i want so if anyone wants the shell then pm me if not then unfortunatly it will go to the scrappy but i will offer any parts that i am not going to take off to anyone who wants to come take them off before it goes.

Nice one Lee. Looking forward to seeing this one evolve. And yes the white shell is pretty horrendous.

Might be adding a few items to the shopping list I left you with. Will be in touch.

when the car comes back from paint what is the best way to put the engine back in? i have seen people lifting the shell then lowering it onto the subframe but does this make it hard to line up all the bits at once or just go for one bit at a time?

I personally like the lifting shell approach, but its straightforward enough to swing the engine and box in in one go. Put some sheets over the nose to protect your paint and put it in with an engine leveller or a few mates. Drop the rear of the subframe to make it easier.

I took the gearbox out from JYP from inside the car....don't try that!

Just a quick update on JYP engine is now out along with the subframe and awaitng a good scrub and paint, subframe and suspension components are going to be blasted ready for powder coat.Started taking parts off EJO ready to take to stoneleigh, all of the interior is now removed and stored in the loft ready for JYP rebuild also removed the headlamps bumpers grills bonnet without the use of tools! keep looking at the webasto and wondering if i should fit it in JYP or just keep the sunroof it had in it already either way i will take it out when i cut the car up

Lee, don't forget to take measurements of the roof in case you do need to cut a hole in yours at a later date. Saves a lot of guesswork.

Quick update on jyp all the suspension components have gone to powder coat to a company i found locally who do playground equipment and it turns out they blast and powder coat all there parts in house, i have decided to have the subframe and all suspension parts front and back various engine parts and various clips and four sets of springs in red turns out cash jobs pay for the tea fund just means it is done as and when they get the time normally two weeks i have been told seems pointless at that money to break out the wire brush!
Ejo sprint is now gone (body thats is)and all parts cleaned up and stored away ready for jyp rebuild cut all the bits from the shell that i could use to restore jyp thought this would be a good idea to save time on making these bits. Also been looking into the recovering of the roof going to go for mohair rather than vinyl but was told today that it wont stretch like vinyl and will wrinkle anyone fitted this material before?

Quick update on the resto ordered my new shocks today, i was just going to sell my two spax sets and use the money from them to buy my new ones then whilst ordering changed my mind and ordered ride and height adjustables at far more exspense, although i am quite happy the girlfriend dislikes the dolly so much that she does not keep track of the money spend out on it,pics to follow shortly of the new powder coated bits and the shocks

chatting to a vehicle trimmer today for some advice on the headlining and the vinyl roof for my car because i also need to get my webasto redone and he put forward the idea of not having the roof fitted but my car had a sunroof which i refuse to put back in (hate sunroofs)so i will be left with a hole in the roof is this a easy job for a bodyshop to blank off and get it perfect for the new vinyl or should i enlarge the hole and fit the webasto?

Get a complete roof panel from another car, cut out the relevant section and weld it in.

Any decent welder should be able to make that disappear, especially after its been covered with mohair or vinyl. Then fit a headlinging from another car

I happen to have a roof panel and complete headlining for sale   Could you tell from the way the post started?
