Remember the old restorers proverb.

New parts only make old parts look rough!

I have restored quite a few bikes and with them bolts are everything.
Find a good 'bolt' shop, take the old bolts in and ask them to replace with new ones.
If you leave them to sort them out for you, they normally say
'giss a couple of quid mate!'
Saves buying specialised sets from specialised suppliers.

Just don't get the gov'ner of the shop, or he will charge you inc the vat and give you a bill.

Quick update on the project 2nd batch of powder coating went off a few days ago (few bits i forgot the first time round) and went to davids in emsworth to pick up a roof section so i can loose the sunroof.Went to see the car today to check progress to my suprise not much happening yet due to a few insurance jobs that have jumped the queue for the bodyshop but that just gives me more time to refurb parts ready to go on pics to follow as work starts on the body..

Hi thought i would check in and let you all know the latest on the resto of JYP, i have now sourced all the panels ready to be fitted these include inner, outer and strenghteners for both sides of the cills and a pair of chassis legs (starting to wonder what part of the car will actually be original) also received the second run of powder coating back which once again was very cheap but excellent quality, started to de-grease the axle tonight which whilst in storage has leaked all over the garage floor and caused everthing in its path to get covered  .I started by taking off the rear cover to inspect inside which all seems ok but i am not sure what parts are worth changing while i have it off the car and why it dropped all the oil out? the underside of the axle was wet when it was on the car so it already had a small leak mainly around the flange? that the prop attatches too

Did you have it upside down? If so it will leak through the breather? Easilly done...

i think one axle may of been upside down but as JPB wrote the axle that was on the car was wet already but i dont know if it was leaking or oil from engine /gearbox leaking and spraying back when driving so i may just renew any seals that i can

Hi finally got my laptop back after it seemed to die so thought i would post a update since i was last on hear i have now got a new polybush set for every single bush and a full nut and bolt set new subframe bolts rebuilt my axle and had the bonnet louvred ready for paint i am also having a standard bonnet painted to keep the purists happy if i ever sell it.I also handed over a front hub, wheel, and caliper so that i can have a set of four pots made to suit my standard wheels and to allow for vented discs. Seeing as i now have all new bushes does any body want to purchase the ones that were taken out which are good just that they have been used and some have oil staining on them so they are not up to scratch for my rebuild i also have a subframe mount kit in poly if wanted

If the axle were upside-down, you'd have 4 reverse gears and 1 forward since the pinion would be on the other side of the crown wheel, so would rotate it in the opposite direction.
Oh, & you have a PM re the bushes.

all the parts arrived yesterday ,so tonight i started to assemble the front suspension and the subframe.I used a clamp to press in the bushes and the stainless tubes which worked well the suspension looks a peice of art on its own with the use of stailess bolts, washers and nyloc nuts that coupled with the new coil overs and the powder coated springs along with the polybushes really does look the part just cant wait for my 4 pot brakes to be made with the vented discs(i chose red for the caliper colour and ebc greenstuff pads). For the first time tonight the girlfriend came to see what i was up to so i showed her the parts i had assembled to the response of "why bother it will be under the car" to which i just gave her a dirty look and carried on the assembly if only she knew how much i have spent so far she would be horrified pics to follow once i can find the camera

Having had a set of EBC pads break up once on my 1850 and the result boiling the brake fluid and causing a brake failure I would recommend
to anyone not to use them.

Mintex and Ferodo are still about and they are what you should use...
