Keep it as it was when it left the factory. Everything comes round full circle, in 5 years time the current colour may be considered a modern one whereas orange will be so "2016". Keeping it as a rare 1500TC will also contribute to it's provenance as a true classic not a mongrel.

I don't think so, I'll do as i see fit, I've put a lot of blood sweat and lots of tears into her........ A paint job can always be reversed, hence why I am keeping the engine mods to a dolly spec so that it can be reversed if needed in the future..

Off the top of my head you'll need
box
wiring for box
bracket for box
another bracket for box
box mount or the mod as done by someone on here
brackets for inside the car, on the floor pan
od lever, lever top, switch cover and switch
clutch, plate, release bearing
engine
engine subframe mounts
wiring loom
battery cables
carbs
starter
manifold
propshaft
prop bearing
diff
exhaust
exhaust bracket
od solenoid
air filters for 1850 (or hens teeth)

Like I say that's off the top of my head. Then you'll need to tell dvla and the insurance company.

So keep it original and buy an 1850.

I have quite a few of the parts, why should I part with a car that I bought back from the dead????? have used pretty much daily for the last 4 or so years, why don't you and Karlos look at this restoration from the beginning and look at what has actually been done to MY car, if it wasn't for my custodianship Mable would have ended up on a scrap pile no if's no but's.

If you would like I could actually scrap the idea and maybe put a redtop in or a rover V8, ford V6.... but no I want to keep it triumph or maybe you and Karlos could get together and put an offer in for Mable offers of around a grand, but then again I won't sell.

Don't get shitty, there's no need for that. I offered advice which you do not need to take, but don't get shitty.
I've read every single post on your resto thread, I know how much work you've put in. And don't worry, I won't offer you anything again, advice, help or anything else.
Jeez, prima donna or what.

Your advice was taken in and I thank you for that, but you have to look at it from my point of view, I go out by a dolly 1850 but it just wouldn't be the same. I go out probably buy a shitter and have to put the same work in to get it like I did with mine.

I could understand the hurrah if I was sticking something foreign into it but everything I'm doing is dolly based and can be reversed. All parts taken from Mable will be kept and if she is ever sold then I can revert her back and sell as a 1500TC or giving the new owner the option.

At the end of the day it still will be a dolly on the road and that is the important bit.

Cheers

Darren

You asked for thoughts so I offered mine. It is your car and you can do whatever you want. I don't see the point of asking for opinion and then getting upset if you already have your own plans. I just wanted to point out the value of provenance and originality. I am not knocking any of you efforts either, I can see you have put in a lot of time and effort. Good luck with whatever you do to it.

Cheers Karlos, wasn't getting upset, just really attached to her, tried to sell her last year but couldn't go through with it as that bug of bringing a car from the ashes gets you in no other way. It doesn't matter what goes wrong because every time you drive them it brings a bigger smile to your face.

Also like I said earlier at least everything can be reversed.

Cheers

Darren

Hello there just thought I would update on Mable, we are signed up for the RBRR, and she is currently being stripped down, I'm actually quite surprised how well she looks under the old paint.

There was quite a few rust bubbles forming so it was easier to do the lot in one go. The worst area was under the front windscreen on the drivers side this has been welded now, luckily all the other rust bubbles have just been surface rust.

Now that I have an ex mot bay, it is so handy to have a 4 post lift :-)

I'll try and keep this thread updated as we go along :-)

All the best

Darren

Not sure how to strip the fibreglass wings, do you guys think I'd get away with using paint stripper?

Many thanks

Darren

I'd be VERY careful with paint stripper on GRP, it will eat the gel-coat too if yo're not super careful. and obviously scraping the stripped paint off with a metal scraper is a no-no. Too easy to damage the GRP with one of those. I'd aim for just flatting it back smoothly with wet and dry paper, after all, there is no rust to dig out under the paint, so no need for a "bare metal" sorry, bare GRP, finish!

Cheers Steve

Just worried about reactions I think I used Celly previously and I think I'll be using 2k this time. I'll do a test tomorrow with some and see, I have a can that I have been using for test coats.
