Well she passed and I'm chuffed to bits, it's been a hard long road, but now it is all worth it, and none of my welds fell off which is a good thing :oops:


Thank you so much for the support of every member on here that has helped me over the last few years.

I couldn't have done it with out you all with your advice and tips.

Brilliant job, congrats on the resto and the first time pass! Just like passing a dreaded college exam. Enjoy it as a daily, I have fond memories of 50.000+ miles run up on a Dolly 1300 from 1991 to 1994, with no major issues only rust (but you have that taken care of...).

Congratulations, you can never beat that feeling when the car you've been restoring for the past x amount of months/years finally passed its MOT. It's the feeling which has made me addicted to classic car restoration!!!

Anyway a little update:

Well I took it to Colin today as I wanted him to have a drive, going around some bends at 50, I felt that she wanted to turn the rear end (if you know what I mean).

After Colin had set up the mixture and she idles so much better, as before she seemed quite fast. While he was doing that he noticed that the spindle for the front carb was opening earlier than the rear carb. So he adjusted so they open at the same time. She seems a lot smoother than before. And a little nippier.

We went for a drive and Colin could feel what I was saying about the rear end, so advised I check all the nut's and bolts first. Also thought I would mention I haven't fitted the rear arb yet, so I think this will go on at the same time.

I also thought that the clutch pedal was going down too far :oops: , it seemed to change forward gears ok, but reverse sometimes ok and other times different sounds.

Today I checked all my fluids and happy to report no leaks or losses of fluid. When I went to check the clutch fluid level I noticed that the cap was well broken, so swapped it for one from my wife's old mgf clutch master bottle. As the one of the Vitesse and my old clutch master wouldn't fit.

Colin wondered whether the push rod on the slave isn't the right length. And I wondered if anyone knew whether there are different lengths available.

Well Mable has a Christmas Present, after getting a little bonus from work :jump4joy: I pick up her OD gearbox tomorrow afternoon :D, I think she could do with it

Didn't realise how long since I last posted on this page.

Mable has been laid up for the last year, and over the last few weekends got things done on her that needed doing for the MOT, all little things like no power to washer jet motor, some lights not working etc etc.

A few weeks ago Mable passed her MOT again with no advisories. I done the CT Essex Winter Rally in her and what a blast, it really was so much fun.

Over winter I'm going to start stripping her outer coat as she really is showing her age (not rust) the paint is just very very tired. So for paint I'm looking into two new colours, a modern twist. I do like dolly's in orange something like the ford St colour, but my heart strings pull me to think that one of the BMW metallic browns would look really good and a bit more modern. Over the summer I put MK4 spitty back on the road and resprayed it purple for the wife so I can spray pretty much ok.

Also looking to upgrade the engine to either an 1850/tr7 or sprint but not sure which way to go, but I already have an 1850 overdrive box in the garage.

Any thought would be appreciated.

I'm not going to tell you what or what not to do. Just know what you want to do and get it done. The modern metallic browns are worth considering. Even my good lady likes them.
