Post subject: 'Eeyore' the 1972 Toledo
PostPosted: Thu Jan 19, 2012 6:36 pm
hi there,

Here some pics of my Toledo. I bought it yesterday from Bill Davies (rarebits4classics), for £250, MOT till May, Tax exempt and a brilliant runner!!!
These pics are the ones which bill sent me, it hadnt been washed and it looks a bit worse than it actually is! Those hideous reverse lights on the car in this pic have now been removed, it looks like someone had fitted the later type Toledo reverse lights in the past. This car has many years of service history, receipts etc and even has the original sales receipt and Triumph passport from 1972!!!

I plan to do a rolling restoration on the car, and slowly bring it back to its former glory while enjoying it at the same time!! :D
Today i've started to restore the wheels and have carried out a fully service!!! New pics will follow ASAP!!!!! 8)

Jordan

That really does look like a very nice Toledo sir...! In fact, for the price I imagine it is a very VERY nice Toledo... It's always great to see another survivor out on the road... Brilliant stuff

Wow that is an early one!

Does it have drum brakes on the front?

Rob (triumphtoledo) would be keen to get some info on this survivor for a future edition of Toledo 2-4.

I'll let him know of this topic.

Hi Guys, Yes the car isnt bad really, mechanically its pretty good, and structurally its good as well!! Just the wings and valances are starting to get rusty.
Yes it does have drum brakes at the front, which need adjusting tomorow!! :D
Hi Aaron mate, what's the differences between steering columns????

I dunno about Toledoes (not really my specialist area!) but later Spitfires (Mine's an early late one :P ) had a TR7 steering column, which looks pretty much like what you've got, with the wipers on the left stalk and indicators on the right. I would have though that, seeing as your car pre-dates the TR7 that it wouldn't have had a TR7 column? But I don't know, JPB will ;)

Ah i understand what you mean, my car doesn't have the TR7 style column. It has indicators, horn and dip on the right of the column and then wipers and washers are operated by a twist/pull switch on the dash, a bit like the ones fitted to the Herald 13/60 and Vitesse Mk2. Didnt all Dolomite 1300's from 76 have the two stalk arrangment? :) It also only has one speed wipers. which the later ones had two, didnt they??

Yes that's right. Also like that on some very late registered Toledos. Remind me...does your early Toledo have an electric washer or do you have to pump the switch on the dash?

Since the old wheels looked a bit nackerd, i decided to fit my GT6 5.5J ovals which came with my Vitesse, to the car. They dont look to bad tbh, although I'm looking for some new gt6 centre caps and wheel nuts. :x

The cars got quite a bit off work needing. So far I've fitted new spark plugs, which has really improve uphill driving!!! Ive bought new oil, oil filter and air filter but the weather a bit dreary and rainy today, so they'll wait till the weather cheers up.

So far so good, :D However, i still want a Dolomite Steering wheel, some nice period chrome wing mirrors, new speedo and some original reverse lights
