Congratulations with that car. It's in good hands now for sure.

That does look a good 'un Mike. Well done. :D

The airbox cover looks a bit different to normal ie. it doesn't seem to have any strengthening swage lines in it? or is that just the photo?

Excellent! 8)

Looks both an interesting and historic car.

You say it wasn't given much in extras, I cannot see a radio yet (I think) I can see a retracted aerial on the rear wing?

Shall look forward to reading this topic as it progresses.

Surely all Sprints would have been fitted with an HRW...
but a none sundym Sprint is indeed a rare thing...Ive never seen one before.

I have an emerald 1973 sprint, clear windows and no heated rear screen.

Does it need anything doing to it? I looks fine from the outside but I suspect you'll find something once you delve a bit deeper.

They still turn up don't they, fantastic story.

I had a UK registered Sprint on the M Plate, it was Emerald Green, Black Interior (Not Grey like some of the very very early non Mimosa Sprints or like the Stu Moss Emerald Sprint that Clarkson and Hamster filled with water  ).

This Sprint of mine was non overdrive, non sundym, non headrest, but i am sure it had a HRW, even if it was in 1984 and after I finished the rebuild it was Pimento Red, Sundym all round, headrests and Overdrive.

Emerald was always a bit to 'green' for me, but I have to say, given the rarity of the colour, it is nice to see them in Emerald these days.

Some of that "restoration" is shocking! The front bumper - is there an equally large gap the other side between it and the wing?

well that's a surprise Mike ! :D

good job, love how you are pointing out the finer points (to me anyway) of car resto. Thanks

Alan, there's no gap at the other end which is why I think that the wings and front panel are fitted cocked over to the left. The size of gap at the side of the nearside eyebrow also points to this.
Agreed.

Shall watch this with interest, thanks for taking on the task and saving this one.

More to come.
Where do you find this stuff? :green: Have you got some kind of Harry Potteresque self replenishing cupboard?

Last year you sold a car with a complete set of NOS panels and here you are with one again! I spent absolutely ages trying to find an offside rear wing for my orange car a couple of years ago, in the end I had to give up and use a section for a repair Derek did. I've been grabbing what I can when I can for for more than a decade now and don't have one set yet. Now I'm gearing up for a full resto I'd love to add both rears to the collection if you can pull a pair from that magic cupboard of yours [-o<

Nice one Mike; I recognise the number plate of your Sprint from a pic within a very old issue of Dolly Mixture.

'UJ' is obviously a Shrewsbury number and my Toledo, OUJ 904M, was also supplied by Shrewsbury Motors in January 1974. I do not think that it exists as an Audi dealership nowadays though, as the premises was on the English Bridge; I think the exact spot where the dealership stood is now the NCP underground car park. I think the Audi dealership is where Kennings was.

OUJ still has its passport to service and was maintained at Shrewsbury Motors until 1976; I cannot make out a name of the technician though but it was the same guy that serviced my car for several years. I also have some of the BP lubrication sheets used by Shrewsbury Motors. Maybe we should huddle into a corner and compare notes at a future show ;)
