My Sprint auto's MoT has just run out & it won't pass the next one.
The rear n/s floor is rotten and the sills are tired.
The front screen surround, A-pillars both sides, the rear C pillars and rear of the roof are rotten and the vinyl roof is gradually falling off.
I think it's beyond economic repair and was just about to buy a 1500 manual (with rectangular headlights and simpler dashboard) with a good shell and swap the running gear and exhaust. I might swap the dashboard later too.
I notice from the 1850/Sprint Haynes manual that the rear axle is different on the Sprint from that of the 1850, so it looks like the 1500 may be the same as the 1850?
Has anyone else done this and, is there anything else I would need to do? Does anyone know if the front sub-frame is different and is it an easy swap?
Are the front axles the same, does anyone know?
Otherwise, my 1500 e Bay purchase is going to look a bit daft.

Hi Ken, im doing exactly the same thing - ive just stripped a sprint to put into my 1850/1500 hybrid - kept pretty the whole guts of tthe sprint, because everything is different - I didnt even know untill today, when a neighbour came past, saw the sprint in pieces, and told me the axle is from a TR6! - see my post on the dolomite-related bit for details of how/what to take off etc..very good advice! The Sprint axle uses a TR6 diff (I think). The axle casing is the same on the 1300, 1500 & 1850 Dollies with the only difference being the diff ratios.

Axle casing on a sprint is totally different to all other models.

Sprint uses the large car type diff but in a live axle casing, You would find something pretty similar under a non IRS TR4.
Internals are much the same as TR6 Stag, T2000 etc...

To swap into a flat plank 1500 shell is a pretty large amount of work, as EVERYTHING bar the shell and fuel tank is different. An 1850 HL is the best starting point as it has the same loom, 4 headlights and seats, so only the oily bits need to be changed....subframe radiator engine box prop diff and exhaust....and brake balance valve.

On a 1500 you need to do the lights loom sound pad seats dash as well and all the sundym glass too.. Its all doable, just more work.

Good luck.

I'd sell the 1500 and wait for a Sprint with a blown engine or 1850 with the same...but I'm getting old and lazy.

Stag diff is differant to a sprint and there are no interchangeable parts. Tr4, 4a,5,250, 6 and 2000/2500 have some interchange bits with a sprint also atlas van has as well
