...you really are putting myself and my son to shame

....all we've done in two weeks is bought 2 cars ( ..one was a VW Derby - my son's dream car...!)

...looked at the sections of concrete covered in snow and Ice that is my garage.....thought.." ...Nah...tomorrow" for three days in a row....

...and drank a lot of tea while sucking in a lot of air saying to ourselves " oooo...cold out there! "

Honestly, what a big bunch of pinky-waving-sandel-wearing-shandy-drinking-poooftars we are!

Great work there - that's never your first go...? is it....?
yes it is.

most of the skilled work is being done by bodywork man Alan. basically i usually measure up what size the repair patch needs to be, cut it, bend it if it needs it, and use shrinking/stretching to shape it if it needs it. he then welds it to the car and bashes it about to fit with a great deal of precision. also im usually on grinding, removing filler(of which there is a large amount), and general dressing duties.

although im fully expecting him to say that im going to be welding tomorrow...

Please don't apologise for posting too much - we cannot get enough of this stuff.

As for that wing repair.....as Eric Morecambe would say "You can't see the join!".

Here's how I tackled fitting the Fiesta rad to my car, inspired (and not entirely copied) by Jeroen.
Image
Simple aluminium frame made to be snug and riveted around the rad itself, two brackets riveted to either side at the top of the frame, with captive fixings fitted to the car. One central bracket underneath that I then welded a pickup point onto the inner front panel for, unhelpfully I can't find any pictures of it now, but it's not terribly hard to imagine.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

.....for a minute there, I thought Pete was in a one of the Hot parts of the world, like our Oz cousins...

...which would have accounted for all the hard work he's put in so far, and made me even more envious than I am at the moment.....

....then I realised it was Oli's post....

...so I suppose he's just Northern....and used to the cold!
