The majority is, what rust there is, is mainly surface, there is, of course, the odd bit of filler that would be expected after 41 years, and the underside is just as good, as can be seen in the exhaust pics. I'd not be embarking on a full on respray if it had just been the odd few rust blisters that had needed attention, but because of the microblistering that effected a vast amount of the top coat, it was the only real option. Whilst it looked good stood a few feet back, up close you could see the blemishes, and they stood out like a sore thumb when polishing it.

Looks like some.........PERSON (insert appropriate insult here) painted it on a very damp day and without a water trap on the compressor.
I'm sorry for you cos all that will have to come off to get it right.

Well most of it is off, just the doors left to do now, the remaining red on the car is previous paint, which is sound enough.

Not had chance to do too much recently, but we've thrown the lights and plates back on so it remains usable (plus dad is visiting so he can have a go!)

Next job is the doors, I'll do the good ones first leaving the NSR door till last as it's the worst of the 4.

Decided to crack on and do the worst door to get it out of the way. Was pleasantly surprised with what lay under the paint, mainly surface rust that had caused the outbreaks all over the top, the rest is as sound as the day it left the factory really. Not at all bad for 41 years.

And all back on the car, just before the rain! :D

Great stuff, but do get some gloss on quick...primer is porous and you dont want a repeat of what went before...:-)

Thankfully it lives in a nice dry garage rather than outside, door was stripped in the garage, and car on the drive, just managed to get it on and back in the garage before the rain started.

An artists impression of the final look, although I did have second thoughts about orange yesterday, but I think it's a goer.

Work has been on a go slow recently due to having my parents visiting, but thanks to a couple of slack days where we've not been out I've managed to get the roof stripped back to bare metal and back in primer, joys of changing mind about going for a vinyl roof. So, just leaves me 3 doors to do, and a bit of fettling behind the headlights, before cracking on and getting it prepped for a final all over prime and colour coats.

So finally managed to do a bit more, bare metalled nsf door, not quite as good as the rear one, but not too terrible, bit of surface grot but nothing holed along the bottom, and a repair just under the quarter light, maybe from a previous mirror mounting, as appears to be a hole welded up. Also ordered the paint this morning, Ford Signal Orange so no changing of mind any more. Just slapped the primer on quick as local do tomorrow so needed the door on for that, but be nice to take it for a spin again, it's been a few weeks since the last time it ventured out.

Typical BL build quality?

Now, question is, the roof, it's going black, but, metallic black, gloss flat black, or satin?

Well it made the show, and a good day was had.

Now the dear little darlings have returned to school, I'm hoping to get a bit more time to spend on getting it finished, so today, as I had to do teh school run this afternoon, rather than end up filthy stripping paint, we stripped the shell down. Headliner will come out tomorrow, it's all un-glued now thanks to the lovely weather today, so I can clean it, plus rustproof the rear section of the roof, and drill a hole for an aerial before it gets paint. Screens came out nice and easy, and nothing is seized up so its all come apart nicely.
