I saw RUK on a trailer at Stoneleigh two weeks ago. I can't believe how much you've managed to do since then!
I do have two used senders that were in among the spares that came with my 1850. Will test them tomorrow and see if they work; if they do, you're welcome to one.
Thanks! Did you see her in the cow shed? I was on my way back from collecting her.

After a clean up and soak in the rust remover the sender seems to be working properly again. Its an easy job to replace so I'll just put it back in for now.
Yes, I think I spoke to you and Bruce towards the end of the afternoon. No problem with the sender; at least I've now got two working spares!

Ha ha!

I'm waiting for parts to arrive and as I'm on the end of my postmans route my mail tends to arrive at 2pm!

So I refurbished the Lucas 9SJ pump that I have, apologies for the lack of before shots.

It was running but not sucking fluid. Turns out the screws had rusted away and the base had come away so there was no seal. So I stripped it down, cleaned it and put it back together with a new O ring and screws.

Put the washer bottle and lid through the dishwasher, reassembled the pump with a bit of red rubber grease, tested and it moved water (at an alarming rate!!) and it's ready to go back on the car when the new washer hose arrives.

Hmm, may have to redo my lid after seeing that picture.

Whats is the best way of sealing the hole in the boot floor where the tank outlet goes?

You need a non-setting putty like Dum Dum (which you can't get any more).

Or leave it open so if the boot fills with water it'll drain out. Also useful for venting away condensation on the underside of the tank.

The boot floor plus the bottom of the tank have both been thoroughly coated with some wax so I'm now not worried about corrosion, it also has a weird drain hole as well, not the big one, a smaller one. I'll take a photo later.

I put in the original foam bung thingy but it doesn't seal very well, plumbers mate is a non setting putty, I'll try some of that.

Look what I pulled out of the boot!

Definitely not touching that!

Back to the fuel system.....

The carbs have been rebuilt and are on the bench waiting to be fitted!

There's no rust on the boot floor but I still gave everything a healthy coating of wax.

Image

Bolted the tank in then used some Plumbers Mait to seal the hole...

I'm working from the back to the front replacing all of the rubber joining sections, the actual fuel pipe itself is covered in underseal and looks to be in good condition.

This is the little hole I was talking about Mark...

Drain maybe?

There was one of those holes on my car as well.

I connected a spare washer bottle and some pipes as a on demand
electric oil slick

Wow, that tyre could even be the original!

Incidentally I see someone's selling one of a similar vintage on Ebay for £40. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOODYEAR-G800 ... 3641.l6368

I'd never want to use it but it might appeal to someone looking for a concours period part.

That reminds me, what's the best tyre size to put on?

I was thinking 155 80 R13's
