May be a dump question but I am wondering if there exists other exhaust manifolds with optimised paths for the Sprint engine as it looks quite tight there compared to other engines? If yes is it something which brings improvements at all as I guess it will be quite complex to get all tubes in equal lenght together in this tight space?

Ah! yes, this one keeps popping up from time to time. There are no aftermarket manifolds as such but a few people have had them made up. The hardest part is squeezing them in, with either mods to the left hand turret or moving the starter motor to the other side of the engine. Yes it can be done and will give a few (3-5 maybe) bhp. I believe the main gain is the mid range torque. None of this from personal experience just what I've learned over the past few years.

I have done this - had the extractors made up by an exhaust specialist when I was racing many years ago. These pictures are from the resto project which, after way too long, is nearing completion.
It does require cutting and shutting of the suspension turret and a small amount taken from the fire wall in order to have clearance. Didn't have to worry about the starter motor, but the gearbox tunnel also requires some enlargement on the left hand side - we chopped the section out and made a new section to weld in. I've been told by a passenger that the souls of his shoes were just about melting when we once used the racer in a three day rally!! I plan to put a false floor in this car in order to ensure that the carpet is not scorched.

Paul, can you still get the manifolds made?

You're a clever chap Mad Mart!!! I was trying to post some of the same pics again but be buggered if I could remember or work out how the hell I did it the first time. I'll have to have another look at the Photobucket thing so I can show the Dolomite world progress on Project Silver.

Anyway, re the manifold ... you surely wouldn't want to pay the freight when you could have a specialist in the UK do the job? It was over 10 years ago since I had them made up and the guy who did the work has moved on...don't know where.

However, I can take more pics from more angles so try and give you a better look at the shape if that's of any help (of course, I can't guarantee that I can post them on the site!!!!) Unfortunately the engine is is the car now which prevents a more simple shot of just the manifold alone.

Cheers

I think I get the gist of the manifold, can you take some pics of the gerbox mods?

I recall scott mentioning that a tubular manifold is worth 20bhp on a full race engine at Jigsaw's rolling road of choice, assuming you have it tuned to peak at 8k+...

Hi Mart

A few pics for you re the manifold and the modifications required to the gearbox tunnel and firewall I have run some high temp silicon over the joins and welds on the tunnel to ensure it is water tight. Clearance from the gearbox is fine, but it is very tight to the firewall. Hope this of of some help and interest.

Cheers

Thanks for that Paul, definitely some food for thought there.
