Hello,

At first time, excuse me for my English, i am not very good in ....
My firstname is Christophe, i am 46 years old, i have a BMW 2002 Tii (Groupe 1) and a triumph Dolomite sprint groupe 1.
I am doing races in France with theses 2 cars.
My Dolly est equiped groupe 1 and i want to upgrade it 1 step more.
I have 2 SU8 carburators, STR 91 camshaft.
I bought this car last year, but i had a lot of problems.

I hope you can help me .....

My first question is about camshaft
I have a STR 91 (i think the duration is 290°)
I want to upgrade with a str 139 model and weber 48. Newcam propose me 2 models 1 is a 290° (the same of mine) and a 340°?
I think that the str 139 is a 316° or 324° is it true?
And if it is true, what is the 340° model
Thank you

My reply from the other forum...

Hi Christophe

The STR139 is 324 deg duration.

Changing to this cam isn't as straight forward as changing to the STR91 cam, there are quite a few other mods. required to the head (and probably the bottom end) as I'm sure you are aware.

Hi, as Mart says, just a change of cam is not that simple it usually involves modifications to the head & pistons. Also to use the extra power & RPM needed to gain any advantage from this cam the block & bottom end needs stiffening as maximum power is good past 7,500 rev/min whereas the block is only good to 7,200 rev/min.

Thanks for yours answers
With the STR 139 cam i will change my inlet manifod, add 2 weber 48, double springs valves.
I also add forged pistons.
The bottom motor has still been well balanced.
Do you have good adresse in England for motorsport pieces for Dolomite?
I just have the inlet manifold.

I am looking for bilstein B6 or B8 for the Dolomite, do someone has the reference of them, and an adress to buy them. It is impossible to buy them in France.

Salut Christophe, bienvenue!

Are you by chance in this video? link
And do you have pictures of your car?

Regarding your question, I think Ken (Dolly racer 33) who posted above is regarded as the specialist in racing Dolomites in the UK. In France, there is the Amicale Dolomite Sprint (président: Daniel Dussault in Aucamville). He’s very well known in France.

In The Netherlands (Pays-Bas), there’s Hans. A very knowledgeable Dolomite specialist. He’s been racing Dolomite’s since the early ’90 and can provide you with an excellent engine, etc. See example of an engine he build and tested here: link

Also, I've updated the cams list a little:

Good luck with your Dolomite!

A UK friend of mine that once was the owner of a works Dolomite Sprint had some bilsteins made like the originals that were used and had it made with the damping rates that were on original ST testing sheets.

Bilsteins were superiour in their time but now i think there's no difference with avo's or something like those.
The Dutch race sprints use intrax.

Thanks for your answer.
With the AVO model, does someone have the differents measures of the front springs ans rear springs.

The french reglementation allow 10 cm between the ground and the bottom of the car.

Hello,

No one can answer me about AVO shocks or gaz shocks.
I am very interested to know the rates about springs
I looked, that for racing, springs must be 500 lb and 200 lb rear with tourism tyres, is it good?
What do you think about length springs i read 12 somewhere and 10.5 in another forum. 2.25 or 2.5 model? What may i buy?
Thank you for your answers

Salut Cristophe,

Your regulations in the French ‘Groupe 1’ state that you have to use the Falken ZE912 road tyre, is that correct? Do you use 185/60x13 size?

I’m not sure if with these road tires, you have to use such stiff springs. In this thread, you’ll find more info from an experienced Dolomite racer on springs and set-up:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17344

Regarding the spring diameter: you can use the original 2.5 model, but to have these springs made will cost more than the more common 2.25 dia.

But, to use the 2.25 spring diameter, you have to adapt the top shock absorber mount. See this thread for more info: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2084&st=0&sk=t&sd=a ... g+platform

Bon chance :D
