Now my engine rebuild is continuing I think a rev limiter will be essential so I can rev to 7500 without occassionally ending up over 8 when my enthusiasm and inattention get the better of me!

I did try before with an electronic unit (Shift-Rite) but gave up as it was cutting out inconsistently, sometimes as low as 3500-4000. The auto electrician who looked at it said the problem was the electrics / wiring producing spikes all over the place. However, he couldn't offer a solution.

Other than a Magnetronic unit in the distributor, the rest is basically standard. Anything more modern / sophisticated isn't allowed in the series I race in - it all has to be 'period'.

What are others using successfully in similar circumstances?

Geoff

First of all what have you done to your engine to get 8,000rpm?!

For me it has to be Omex. I have a launch control/limiter system fitted to my other single coil car and it works perfectly. Easy to install with 4 wires and really small. They go on eBay for £60-95 depending on which type you want (with or without launch control).

Downhill????????

Lightening rods and flywheel and then balancing. With a decent camshaft and carbs you can rev this and have some power left.

Yes, just as Jeroen says.

Specialist who ported the 'new' head reckoned it should flow 10-15% better thn the last one. Given in first and second (CR g'box) the previous engine would happily scare me by going past 7500 if I wasn't paying attention, I want to try and preserve my investment this time!
