I'm going to fit vented discs to my Sprint and I'm going to need longer stub axles. Are Vitesse stub axles right ones to use?
Andy.

Just to add a bit of detail it is the Leyland ST discs I will be fitting, any pointer to which stub axles were used would be very welcome!

It's a start so thanks very much, but I'm looking to fit ST discs not Ford so I'm not sure if these are right. Some distant memory seems to be telling me that the factory used Vitesse stub axles and I've looked through quite a few ST parts lists for various rally and track spec set ups and they all mention vented discs but none mention the stub axle's that were used.
I'll contact these folk though to confirm.
Andy.

Yes they are used to fit ford discs. This was the only source of stub axles that I knew of so I thought it was worth sending it over :)

Vitesse/GT6 stub axles are compatible with Dolomite uprights and longer. The extra 1/4" is between the bearings.

This is exactly what I was looking for so thanks very much. I need to check that the ST discs I have are balanced now.
Cheers,
Andy.

I fitted uprated stub axles and alloy hubs to my car. More details here:

I'm impressed with that set up, good engineering just shouts every time. I'm going to be completely honest and admit that my brake set up choice is a bit of a puzzle even to me. I got my Sprint earlier this year and it has twin callipers fitted which was intriguing and begged a few questions: who, when, why etc? I found out they were a controversial aftermarket attempt to improve braking which in theory shouldn't have made any difference but some actually thought it would make the brakes worse, i.e. there's no point increasing the friction area if the discs can't lose the heat any quicker and the extra pads and callipers might just restrict airflow even more.
In use they worked no better or worse except that they lacked feel and had too much travel. This was cured by fitting a Jag XJ master cylinder, same body bigger bore. Travel and feel restored I was going to keep them on the car just for interests sake. Then I saw a set of ST discs and Pads on the Bay and I couldn't resist, it had to be the next logical step!
Did I say logical? We all know that logic isn't the common force that binds us to these cars but it seemed logical to me at the time anyway. Hopefully I'll get my twin calliper vented disc Dolly on the road over the next few weeks and enjoy the novelty if not any big improvement in the brakes.
Andy.

As an aside, the club has a few pairs of new standard stub axles in stock.

I have the stub axles you need, I have just had them remanufactured with the required spacers to go between the upright and the hub to take up the gap due to the hub moving out. These are an exact copyof the Leyland ST stub Axles. I have made these to go with my remade Leyland ST Vented disc set up that I am currently doing.

Ken.
