OK, we've all done the tappets on our cars with standard cams but how do you work out the valve clearances if you fit a different profile cam? I know that the off-the-shelf cams usually have their own spec sheet with these clearances on but how do you go about calculating the clearances of a bespoke cam? Obviously there has to be some clearance to make sure the valves close fully but how much?
