MOT tomorrow

#1 Post by AndyJ »

Anyone know if I have to have a door mirror fitted for an MOT? Mine broke when I removed it when the car was stripped prior to painting and it's one of only two jobs left to complete the rebuild. I'd be gutted if it failed on that!

Not 100% sure but i think you need at least two mirrors, including at least one exterior to pass,
Hope that helps,
Dalton

AFAIK all you need is the interior mirror. If you're worried phone up the test centre and ask them before you leave.

From the 2012 Tester's Manual.

Obligatory mirrors are
a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the
drivers seat), or

b, an exterior mirror fitted to the
nearside left hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or

c. an interior mirror.
Currently over 35 years worth of fixing 35 boxes.
Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.

Yes, Harvey is quite correct. But it depends a bit on year of first use.
Before 1/8/1978 ( Most Dolomites ) 1 mirror. The interior one will do.
After 1/8/1978 and before 1/8/1983 2 mirrors, one of which must be on the offside.
After 1/8/83 You need the 3 mirrors, Interior, nearside and offside.

It never got there. The starter pinion stuck and no amount of banging or rocking would unstick it :? . I didn't have time to remove it so I had to cancel  . Later on I pushed it back into the garage and thought I'd give it one more try; no prizes it started first time  . Try again next weekend then :) .

At least it'll have a new door mirror fitted by then, it needs two looking at earlier posts.
