:rofl4:

I always clean the inner rims up & that seems to work fine. Don't have much of a problem with self deflating tyres. I thought you could put Hammerite on just about any metal? still it seems to work fine on Sprint alloys. :D

hammerite specialist to the rescue...

theres hammerite 'special metals primer' that is meant for aluminium, i dont see the point in it really, seems to adhere ok without it and also doesnt crack or craze too easily

I polished up the sprint wheels before it went to the bodyshop 3 yrs ago, and just cleaned up the area where the bead on the tyre seals with a wire brush on a drill, and repainted with hammerite straight on to bare metal.

not been touched since and are still up!!

(and very amusing folks :chortle: )

Hammerite is fine applied to aluminium without the use of primer....... Trust me I'm an aircraft technician and some of our best loved machine's wear it!

I will not say exactly which as I will not give the mighty Hammer free advertising!!!! :)

This is the second time i've done my wheels. They had some of the white (is it oxidisation) on them which took some getting rid of. I had to emery/ wet and dry it away in stages. Then i bought a cotton polishing wheel which i attached to an old electric drill and used some compound to get them upto a mirror finish. Then a repaint. I laquered them last time, but not going to bother this time. They tend to get a yellow tinge setting into the laquer face. And its a bugger to get off again. All in all it took me a good week to get them all done. Front ones waiting to go on with restored subframe, wishbones etc.

I keep pulling people up on this im sure its baked bean (with the sauce unsucked) and not orange. I too have the same coloured dolly as you two although the bottom half is grey ready for a few cans of paint just to get me on the road. But i must say its the best colour of the dolly range so come on the orange baked bean or vermillion boys dont let em knock the colour grrrrrrr. Saying that the wheels look the dogs dangleys and i cant wait to get me hands on some wheels and attack em myself.
