The Lamb's sticker sent in by Alan reminded me that my own car has this very same sticker.

The second picture is a miniture badge from Page Motors of Epsom in Surrey, the dealer who sold the Herald to its original owner in November 1964. Page Motors are listed in both my Triumph sales and service handbook and my Rover/Triumph sales and service handbook. However, the Herald was original dispatched to Auto Carrs Sales Limited in Croydon, but this dealer is not listed in none of the above handbooks. Not sure what happend to Auto Carrs or how long they were trading in the 1960s/early 70s.

Here is one from Stockport, taken from a long since dead 1850HL's Passport to Service;

This car I broke up about 8 years ago, I mentioned it to a Car Trader that we use through work who is based in Manchester, I told him it was Lex and he then told me the correct address!

Seemed he did his apprenticeship at this very dealer, around the date this car was supplied so he probably did the PDI on it as that was part of his duties - small world eh?

Just remembered I have a 'motor' magazine dated 1973 that has alot of BL adverts in it, I'll post them on here later. Dereham Motors supplied my first Toledo back in 1974. They were situated on Norwich Road and dealt in Morris, MG, Triumph and Wolesley. I know they were still trading in the 80s because my father bought a 3 year old 1983 Triumph Acclaim HL from them. The garage is no longer trading today, I believe shops now stand in its place. Somewhere I have a handbook wallet that was from Dereham Motors, I'll try and find it and take a picture of it.

Winchurch Motors was in Sandon Road, Bearwood, I used to be an apprentice there.

The Dealership was demolished long time ago and is now a block of apartments.

Does anyone have an example of an Appleyard of Leeds sticker?

My Toledo was sold by B. Massey's Beverley branch and still has its (unfortunately badly degraded) dealer sticker in the rear window.
I served my apprenticeship at Uxbridge Service Station, Cowley Mill Rd Uxbridge between 1970 and 73 during which time they were agents for Austin and Triumph.
Later on in late 74/early 75 I worked for Stewart and Arden in North Harrow (then or later part of the Henlys Group) which was a BL main dealer, selling everything from Minis to XJ12 Jags and including a good number of Triumphs (though IIRC the sales team were under orders that in no circs were they to take a Stag in part-ex!)

Just caught up with this "Old" Thread....

Anyway, My Dolimite 1500HL came with the original bill of sale. Sold through an agent rather than a main dealer which I can't see mentioned in the thread.

Details are:-

Aggis & Sons (Upminster) Ltd
Chestnuts garage
Upminster
Essex
RM14 2SP
Tel Upminster 20027 / 27151

It says on the payment reciept that they were Agents for ; Austin, Wolseley, MR and Unipart Centre but they were obviously able to supply Triumph's new as well....

my car was supplied from them new on 10th May 1979. Total price new with Overdrive, car tax, delivery, number plates and 12 months Road Tax was £4341.42

Therer is a seperate bill from Aggis dated 15th May covering a Unipart Radio including speaker and fitting for £52.76 and Full Castrol Bodyshield at £131.76

My 1500SE reg FSE880T back in the 80,s came from MaCrae & Dick in Inverness and Sprint reg RVD509M from somehwhere in East Glasgow I cannot recall but it passed through Rossleighs in Perth late 1974. We had 2 Triumph dealers in Dunfermline being 'GOODALLS' in Queen Anne Street (demolished for the Kingsgate shopping Centre 1984) and TAGGARTS (demolished for a Freezer Shop 1990's next to Dunfermline FC ground). Enjoyable thread this specially for an old boy like me who remembers so many!

I have been writing some blog posts about Triumph car dealers: http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/sear ... CarDealers

I have a copy of a booklet that lists the dealers as at 1968/69: https://app.box.com/s/19sp0baayb93ublizng04vuqligqruig

Image

I would love to get hold of a dealer listing as at 1981 the year my TR7 was sold.

The Carlisle Triumph distributor was County Motors. They had a showroom across from what is now the back of the Lanes shopping centre in Carlisle and had a service/secondhand car sales place in the Botchergate. I remember seeing the first of the Dolomites there when my mother and father were starting to think of buying a new Toledo, which they did in June 1972. County Motors then moved to a new showroom purpose built for Triumph and Rover at the end of the Warwick Road where Lloyd land Rover is now and I remember us going to collect our new Triumph there. Carlisle had a thriving Rover Triumph clientele at that time.

In Dumfries, the Dumfries Motor Company in English Street were the Triumph dealers and had been for a long time, pre war I think until the mid 1970s.

In a complicated set of moves, in Carlisle another firm called Dias who used to be where a part of the aforementioned Lanes shopping centre is, took over Graham and Roberts, which became Appleyard, and they had the Austin/Morris/MG dealerships.

Dias then bought over a company in Dumfries called Penman's who had a showroom in Buccleuch Street and Irish Street which had originally been Penman's car bodybuilding workshop. They built bodies for Arrol Johnston amongst others and still survive as a specialist bodybuilder in Dumfries although the showroom and workshops are an Indian restaurant and an outlet shop respectively.

Anyway, Dias built a new purpose built "all makes" BL dealership at Newbridge at the far end of Dumfries on the A76 and they took over the Triumph dealership too. That was the place you went for parts and were told if you bought 100 they could supply them (truthfully). Dias folded eventually and a local firm called Thomas Corrie who had been the Morris and MG dealer took on the BL dealership. The building is still a car showroom now for Border Cars who sell Fiats and Mitsubishis from it.

This is a fascinating and memory jogging thread. I would often buy spares from the St Albans branch of Mann Egerton and Dunham & Haines in Luton. Bought a Mini from Mann Egerton in Hitchin.
A few more Triumph distributors I used in my youth (early Austin-Rover era & branding):

Ray Chapman,
Harpenden,
Herts

Codicote Motors,
Codicote(!)
Herts

St Audries Garage,
West Quantoxhead,
Taunton TA4 4DN

My current Dolomite was supplied new by
Trident Garages Ltd,
Guildford Road,
Ottershaw,
Nr. Chertsey,
Surrey
Ottershaw 2561/3

It was traded in and subsequently purchased by its second owner from
Warners (Engineers) Ltd,
London Road,
Windlesham
Surrey
GU20 6PJ
Tel. Bagshot 0276 73561

It still has Warner's Austin Rover era sticker in the rear window.

Don't think this thread has yet mentioned HA Browett & Co, Granby Street, Leicester, a Triumph and Reliant distributor. A good friend of mine served his apprenticeship there in the late 60's.

Can't see this one, My car was supplied new and then sold to its second owner, my Dad, from Bernard Myres of Walton Nr.Street, Somerset. The third owner, aka Me, lives 6 miles from Walton and I oftern pass the site and the sign is still on the wall.
