Two more for the list, my 1850HL came from Fry's Garage, Pilgrims Way, Otford in 1977

Our Tolly came from Connoisseur Cars, Aldenham Road, Watford, as did my Grandad's 1.8 TC Marina. I worked there for a few years before they lost the franchise and subsequently closed in 1989. The recovery side is still going strong but the garage is now flats. Also worked at a few other BL places such as Mann Egerton in St Albans, Merritts of Amersham. Work experience at Roy Chapman Berkhamsted around 81/82 as well.

Used to deal with a lot of other dealers at the time, Dunham and Haines in Luton, Cowies Colchester, Mamos, Mann Egerton Whetstone, Grays of Hatfield, Phillips Garages (Harrow I think) Pheonix Garages (Aldenham?) to name but a few.

Fry's Garage has also gone, now a housing estate (checked it out on google earth)

Will see if I can remember some more ...

Iain

The Carledo was supplied new by R B Massey of Beverley, Yorkshire, no idea if it is still standing, but Masseys had several dealerships in the area from what I can tell.

I did my apprenticeship at Uxbridge Service Station, Cowley Mill Rd, from 1970-73, at that time, their franchise was Triumph and Austin. Not long after I moved on, they switched to Vauxhall and later to Peugeot. I think the garage is still there but its been a few years since i've been past!

Regarding BEVERLEY (E. YORKS.)

My 1965 dealer listing has: G. Thompson (Beverley) Ltd, Swinemoor Lane

My 1968/69 listing has: Robert B Massey (Beverley) Limited, Norwood

I have a copy of a booklet that lists the dealers as at 1968/69: https://app.box.com/s/19sp0baayb93ublizng04vuqligqruig

Dunham and Haines closed their doors for the last time mid 2005 if I remember correctly.

Not sure why this thread is a thing (no slight intended) but if it helps I have an undated list of all dealers that came with my car, would it be useful to scan and post?

Does anyone recognise G&E Benson ltd? Believed to be in either Wilmslow or Barrow but could be in that general area. Circa 1977.

You can check in the dealer listing for 1965 and 1968/69 details in my previous post in this thread. The dealers are listed by town in which they are based rather than than dealers name or county area. It is worth checking nearby suburbs and villages close to the town you have in mind.

I also worked at Stewart and Arden (Ardern?) in North Harrow in circa 1974, they were BL dealers at the time and had branches all over west London and for Keeler Motor group in Eastcote Mx who did both BL AND Ford, mostly Ford though.

Steve

PS I also took a chisel to many a brand new Dolomite roof whilst working at Car Hood Company of South Harrow and Ladbroke Grove - fitting Weathershields aftermarket fabric sunroofs 1975-6! If you have a Dolomite with one of these roofs sold in the London and home counties area during that timeframe, it's about a 1 in 4 chance I fitted it from new.

May have been a bit rash with my offer in hindsight! ;) Still, I dug out my antique scanner, hacked a driver to get it work in Windows 10, and spent a rather dull hour turning pages! :)

Here is a downloadable searchable PDF of a 1974'ish copy of the Triumph Sales And Service directory. I'm guessing at 1974 as it makes mention of Cumberland, Huntingdonshire, Rutlandshire, Somersetshire etc. all titles which I believe went in the local government reorganisation that came into effect in 1974. Whilst I have run an OCR on the scan before outputting to a PDF, it's not perfect and I have done no corrections, but it does allow you to search the PDF and copy text out.

Any problems then give me a shout!

Rafael.

Allens of Bristol sold Alvis and Armstong Siddeley cars at one point in their history as shown by this picture.
