paint 'issues'
well started to put topcoat on today but i'm not convinced i like the colour, i thought carmine was supposed to be a bit darker?
i've put 3 coats on over grey primer if that makes any difference.
what are your thoughts? good or bad....
cheers craig

Its not orange enough for Vermillion, looks more like Pimento to me but what it definitely isn't is Carmine! Steve

Re: paint 'issues'
That's Pimento, which, unlike Carmine, is correct for the year. It's an ill wind, etc.
It's also the right shade of primer to use under Sienna...... (Yeah, heading for the cloakroom as I write this).

Re: paint 'issues'
This is carmine, just after it went on the car. Same car as in the pic that Martin posted above. Still a bit darker than yours, though. Do you have the code for your paint?

Re: paint 'issues'
That looks more like signal than carmine...maybe its a US thing or your garage lights.
The foreign ones outside look more like carmine on my monitor.
I'd say the new paint was either vermillion or pimento. Its pretty hard to tell them apart sometimes....and Ive got both.
Verm is more orangey...and pim is close to a post box. Then there is another shade from 77 ish who's name escapes me....ut came between them....ah yes flamenco...came to me as I type...
Could be that too.

That was my point - the car in the garage with the new paint IS the car (on the right) outside.

Sorry I missd that, being dim....
Also I've had quite a range of shades of carmine in various rattle cans as Ive touched up my spits over the years.
The keeper was russet but is now carmine.....2 pack and its pretty hard to match with aerosols.

Hi Guys
I spray classic cars for a living (mainly triumphs) and I think I know what the problem is here. There are two carmine reds, one is the Triumph colour which everyone is correct in saying is darker or more maroon looking than your pictures. The other is a brighter red called carmine, but was used on Jaguar cars! The red you have painted your car in looks like Jaguar Carmine to me!!
Hope you sort it
Graham

as for sorting it out means buying fresh paint as the seller (ebay) wont refund as i bought it last october. and tbh for what it will cost to replace then its not really worth pursuing. going to leave as is for now,i know its not the 'correct' colour but A..its different and B..i havent got the time atm to be repainting it again.

Just Googled the Jag carmine and it is a lot lighter, as Graham said. Leave it like that, it looks fine.

Re: paint 'issues'
RAL3002 appears to be Mercedes-Benz Carmine red so it certainly will be unique among Dolomites.
It's a great, bold shade though and as long as you like and/or can live with it then sod what anyone else reckons. I like it, and I'd love to see the finished article parked by an original Pimento one, bet there'll not be a huge difference there.
