Sprint Manual Transmission Tunnels

There seems to be a shortage of these currently. These are made on the aftermarket for a variety of other cars out of GRP.

I can get some made for the Sprint in GRP, having a good pattern to hand to form the mould (cost to be advised). They would be lighter than the steel versions.

What interest is there?

I would have thought quite high as they tend to get infected with rot above the exhaust on the chassis rail joint.

Depends on price but I may be up for one....

On spits they are cardboard....how crap is that.

Again, depending on price, I may be up for one. What about cutting the access panel for the clutch slave & gearbox filler?
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Oh! I didn't know these were in short supply!
Does that mean they are worth more than £10?

Selling one of these this week, and still have another spare! Any takers?

I had thought about slave access, but the process of laying GRP is such that apertures are generally cut out afterwards; take the GRP front panels for instance, both the indicator apertures and the vent holes are matted over and resined, to be cut out once cured. Admittedly its easy with the front panel because the profile of the aperture required is clearly evident on the finished panel; to achieve this on a transmission tunnel then the one used as plug to make the mould would need to be adapted first.

What would be an easy process would be to get hold of the templates that Ted Middleton made and then mark each tunnel after its made where it needs to be cut. The cover plate for the aperture could be a simple cut out of hardboard or maybe aluminium sheet perhaps?

Worth it I reckon - they do rot quite badly and since they aren't structural it's a good spot to lose weight for the racers I guess.

Hello,
If costs are too high, let me know and I will ask a friend, I have sent him some parts to take splashes from for my moped sideline, he makes GRP bellypans and fairings for old RD LC's etc, cafe racers, polaris etc,
he will be doing some MBX125 parts shortly for me, may even send him my sprint rear window louvre....
he wants more parts to sell on his site and the bay, my tunnel is off so would be straight forward to get one done, for testing/appraisal from you guys if nothing else.

Did anything ever come of any of this? I'd be interested if they're not too pricey. Cut out for clutch slave would be nice should make back bleeding a 5 min job!

I'd be interested in one of these, definitely. I did plan on making a mould for one myself but I just haven't had the time, so happy to pay for a proper job.

Matters are now in hand.

Will any purists object to having to use metric bolts to fix the parcel shelf support bar to the sides of the tunnel? I can't find any specialist fixings to create the captive nuts with an imperial thread? I know the racers won't likely bother with the bar or the shelf, but it seems silly to create a mould that won't cater for the requirements of all...
