Sprint brake pipe question.

#1 Post by Smartshark »

I was checking the brake pipes from the master cylinder to the 5 way brake block on my 1980 Sprint and noticed the they were not as the diagrams in the parts books.
In the parts books the rear brake pipe (closest to the servo) on the master cylinder goes to the front brake side of the 5 way block and the most forward pipe from the master cylinder goes to the rear brake side of the 5 way block. Mine are the other way around.
Please could someone let me know what the set up is on their tandem line brake Sprint and/or the correct set up.
Thanks

It looks like mine is plumbed the wrong way then. That is the diagram I keep finding which indicates the pipe closest to the bulkhead should feed the front brakes.
My locating bolt is on the top of my 5 way block but otherwise the configuration looks the same apart from the plumbing from the master cylinder to the block is the wrong way around.

I'xe got a set of original unaltered pipes still screwed into the valve down at the shop since I took the valve off the car, I'll check when I go down tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure the pipe nearest the servo powers the REAR brakes, certainly it does on my actual car and I can't think that I would have swapped them from original when I dispensed with that valve, there would have been no reason to! The parts book may well be wrong, its not really supposed to be an accurate depiction, just a guide!

EDIT, I just looked at the parts book picture again, It clearly states RHS at the top, yet shows the 3 ports on the left side of the PDWA and the mounting hole at the bottom - a physical impossibilty!

The drawing is just plain WRONG!
