Threaded holes in inner sills

#1 Post by matt of the vivas »

Out of curiosity...
What are the 4 threaded holes for in the inner sills, beside the jacking points?
All i can think is that they were used in the factory to secure the bodies to the conveyor during building?
Thanks - Matt.

Are they not the ones for mounting the exhaust hangers, depending on engine / age configuration

For the 1850 with the 4 piece exhaust, the holes will be situated on the offside inner sill underneath the driver's seat. I'll take a look on mine which has that exhaust.

No - these are right on the edge of the inner sill, on the horizontal section that runs next to the joint with the outer sill. There are 4 of them, one next to each jacking point.

Someone asked me that a couple of years ago. I wondered if they were used to set it up in a jig?

Almost certain that they are for moving the car along the line when being assembled.

It would be great if the club could keep an archive of documents and photos like this, to save them for posterity, to show how our cars were made and for reference purposes.

Is that why they're the first bit to vanish?
