Yes the latest conversation I had was with Chris Witor. He's more than happy to look at the feasibility but just needs a sample to work it all out.

I think I have some old stock mounts, could you post a pic of the sprint mounts to remind me what they look like (I know the N/S one is similar to the 1300fwd gearbox mount but different length on the rod) but can't picture the off side one.

I'd be concerned about the stresses transmitted to the subframe and it's mounts with James' suggestion. Those engine mounts are great for giving a snappy throttle response but they transmit a lot more vibration and are limited in the way that they handle twist. Most modern cars I've come across seem to use cone type mounts, with a bush type acting as a steady. I'm not going to pretend to have one iota of expertise in this area, other that seeing them used in race car set ups, just a gut feel that trouble will be transmitted elsewhere.

When IanDollySprint built his Redtop car, he built a couple of this type of mount using bits from CBS. Later driving gave him the impression they were a bit harsh in service. So I sold him a pair of Carlton brackets and he copied the design I used on the Carledo with nice big soft rubber Volvo mounts and brackets on the subframe rather than the body as per his initial effort. He said it didn't improve it much, which surprised me as I don't find my setup harsh at all and transmitted engine vibration is minimal.

Since I don't have a Sprint powered Sprint, I can't really comment on copies of the original mounts. But if Chris W can come up with a poly mount in a near correct shore rating it should be fine. Personally, I quite fancy the "race" style mount, at least for the O/S mount which is a particularly crude design, the near horizontal fitment means it is doomed to sagging and early failure as soon as it comes out of the box, whatever it's made of!

That was my idea also. Poly would be too harsh and causing fatigue on brackets. My idea was using the one in my pic with normal rubber and the other side a std rubber mount. The vertical one does always fail and using a tube type there the engine stay's in position.

I'm getting confused here..... I was thinking off the steady bar not the engine mount. I know I don't have any sprint engine mounts.

Mark had already suggested it.

I am going to look at it this sometime fairly soon (maybe this month),
although it is with a OE rubber mount rather than the Polybush race version that Mark had commented on.

(For the nearside I am going to try Jaguar XJ6)

This was my first atempt at making a poly bush,first of all didnt know how well it would attach to the metal plates,id read the metal has to be really clean,but to be on the safe side i drilled holes to help the rubber attach,when mixing the two compounts together i got that really wrong :oops:,but even though i didnt do this one every well,its still holding the engine in place :D :D so mk2 is in progress,and i need a better bird box :D :D

Last night while I was waiting for a welded bracket to cool down,
I took a look at the Mazda mount against the Sprint one.
Whilst it will fit in the space I am unconvinced by said Mazda mount because it is considerably
smaller than a Sprint mount. Furthermore, the rubber is soft so I am thinking it could be prone to sag?

It will be fine for the nearside I am sure, but the Jaguar XJ6 mounts are much cheaper (80% cheaper!)....


I am thinking the best step is to try fitting the Mazda mount to see if it does sag, but therein lies a problem...
I will be taking the engine out of my Sprint shortly.
