I’m very pleased to report that Noisy Car, as my daughter used to call it when she was a kid, was duly repaired in the available timeframe while I was back home and then made it to the classic car event for a meet with other like-minded vehicles.
Here’s a a link for those that are interested.

The exhaust specialist said that the old downpipe had been so heavily modified around the sub frame area (ie dented in) that the pipe was significantly reduced in cross section. So now it doesn’t knock and I have a proper diameter downpipe. He also re-hung the entire exhaust having commented on how crappy he though the whole thing looked. And he had a point.
What remains now are two sets of noises and one steering clamp question. I’ll do separate threads for those so the info is findable for others in the future.
Thanks
