Check the clevis pin between the pedal and the pushrod, a bit of wear here can translate into an inch or more of pedal travel and make the difference between the clutch clearing.......OR NOT!

So today I finally got round to fitting the pushrod and new clevis and split pins connecting pushrod to pedal! And perfect clutch operation is restored..Finally. Attached picture of offending pushrod. Also attached is a label I spotted attached to the wiring loom to the left of the steering column (surprising what you find lying on your back in the footwell) was this the standard manufacturer for the wiring in our cars? Thanks for the advice and to Bruce for the pushrod.
Rich..
