Last Saturday the master cylinder return spring snapped while I was driving my daughter's car. Result complete loss of clutch control and I found it very difficult to get it into or out of any gear. The engine would stall when I was forced to stop at traffic lights. I was forced to wait with the gearbox in second gear and then to use the starter to pull away at traffic lights. Luckily the engine started up very quickly using this method and no damage was done to the starter motor.

I have had this same failure happen before in cold weather. These springs must get brittle in cold weather after "n" years of use.

I have not been able to identify a part number for just the spring. Can anyone help and also privide details of a supplier,

That'll be a 516223 mate!

But it came as part of the overall assembly

Same thing happened to Debra last year in the 1850. I ended up buying a complete master cylinder (which I got cheap) just for a spring.
