### Coventry festival of Motoring Cancelled ###

#1 Post by Adrianf »

I have just discovered that the festival of motoring in Coventry this weekend has been cancelled due to the rain.

This was a huge event for the area with over 500 cars expected. The Coventry area of the Dolomite club were putting on a stand.

For futhre information see

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7600127.stm

and

http://www.festival-of-motoring.co.uk/

Important - please check out the forum and TDCIR website next week before travelling to the TDCIR. If this bad weather continues then we might have problems with our own event.

I have sent an E-mail to everyone that was attending this years event! from reading e-mails etc it looked like everyone knew anyway!

The muesum rang me today regarding the show, it has been cancelled for this year and wont be re-run!

So keep the club passes and map i gave you as this is the only momento this year!!

If there is enough intrest next year i can again organise a club stand!!

I will pop something on the forum next year, if your interested then your more than welcome to join us, the event is totally free to just be on the club stand, there is a fee however to do the run as this covers insurance whist moving your vehicle on the feild etc!

Sorry to those who were attending or just visiting!

Heres to 2009!

Looks like thats it for the year then, just read this on their website...
CANCELLATION OF COVENTRY FESTIVAL OF MOTORING

Due to the current and forecasted severe weather conditions unfortunately it is necessary to cancel this year’s Coventry Festival of Motoring. The decision was made after long discussions between the organising committee of Coventry Transport Museum and CV One.

Despite best efforts to find an alternative venue, which included consideration of using the RICOH Arena, it proved impossible to find a location that could accommodate the 800 vehicles taking part and still ensure that everyone experienced a quality, enjoyable and safe event.

The venue for Sunday’s event, War Memorial Park, is waterlogged and so the organisers have made the difficult decision to cancel the entire weekend. This includes the full Saturday programme in Millennium Place and the evening reception to be held at the Museum.

Malcolm Oliver, Chairman of the organising committee said :

“We are really sorry that we’ve had to make this difficult decision. We really wanted to give all entrants and spectators a good show and a quality event however with the current and forecasted weather sadly this will not be possible.”

The organisers will be writing to each of the entrants in the next few days to thank them all for their support and understanding. If you know someone who has entered the Festival, please contact them to advise of the cancellation.

The organisers have said that as a nationally recognised event, the Coventry Festival of Motoring will return even bigger and better in 2009.

Everybody cross something, theres a fair load of rain forecast for the TDCIR postcode. The good news is that the 14th looks to be OK at the moment.

Bummer about CFM, hope the alternative date works out.

The TDCIR is in definate danger i'm afraid

A friend at work lives locally to Myton fields, says when the Avon swells Myton suffers quite badly, and even when the fields look ok they are actually very sodden underneath... Extreme care required... Fingers crossed indeed...

If you don't already keep an eye on http://www.metcheck.com I find this to be very good at localised weather and far more accurate than the BBC which tends to be a bit wider area. It's free too. Couldn't get it working last night so haven't been able to keep an eye on the TDCIR location. Should the worst happen I am happy to contact members and advise of the change of plan. Fingers crossed this will not be necessary though.
