I stayed slightly inland of there, near Fyvie, for 18 Months when I was on a placement up that way & it's where the family comes from. It gets really dark in Winter, light only from 10am to around 2pm, but the sun stays visible nearly all the time in Summer, bar a slight bit of semi-darkness between midnight and about 2am, and it doesn't get dark much then.
Summer can be as hot or as cold as anywhere else in the UK, but a little way West, along the Moray coast, toward Inverness, it's usually one of the warmest places in the UK in Summer.

When it's nice it's lovely but when it's wet, windy or cold then it's all of those at once and it's not so nice. Certainly won't be as warm as Southampton!

Its always warm and sunny in Southampton, except those days when it rains and two days a year we have snow.

 I'm learning some useful stuff about the weather in Southampton now, which is funny, 'cos I could have sworn that the o/p was asking fit like's the weather in Aberdeen? :P

Justyn, if you're thinking of emigrating, beware of the long and painful course of inoculations that you'll need before the Scottish immigration service will allow you to settle up there.

Then there's the currency, I think that the Scottish Pound is worth more, by which I mean that the beer's cheaper other than in the City Centre where it's at least 3x as dear as the dearest English pint in England.

They still drive on the left up there but beware of visitors from other European locations who weren't told about this.

You'll only need your passport if you fly in, but when approaching by road, be prepared to produce proof of identity at Border checkpoints, etc. Being one who regularly crosses the Border, I can advise re; places where the armed guards are all in the pub if it's raining.

So, how many sunlight hours are there in Southampton at this time of the year? :D

I was at university in Aberdeen and I remember it being rather cold and windy! The wind does seem to come in off the North Sea quite regularly. Plenty of frosty mornings. The east of Scotland is actually reasonably dry! As has been said before it is a little dark in winter, but makes up for it in summer. As has already been said, when you move inland a little the weather is a little more extreme. Plenty of snow in winter and pretty hot in summer. Fantastic scenery too.
Even with a favourable exchange rate, I found it rather expensive when I was there in the midst of the oil boom years. Other than the students' union beer was noticeably more expensive than in Edinburgh.
There is a good Triumph movement up there, too.

Hmmmmmmmm....................

Never mind the weather............
They speak a different language, Doric, in the North East (lowlands of Scotland).
Or at least they claim its a different language.

It is actually a dialect of Lowland Scots.

Aberdeen has the highest average earnings in Scotland, indeed it is the only Scottish city to have earnings
above the UK average. The cost of living is similarly higher though and thats not just the drink........

Doric was displayed alongside all of the other, commonly spoken UK languages on the notices in public buildings when I was resident to that part of the world, it seemed particularly prevalent in Peterhead and Fraserburgh, where many of the students I was working with didn't recognise words that most of us would say were English. Certain phrases were found to be absent from the Doric language too such as; "I'm buying the beers."

They even have their own type of clothing up there, the trouser pockets are particularly deep. This coupled with the unusally short arms of the locals.........
