I had a picture of one of these when I was a boy, and was completely awestruck!

I've always wanted a Hino Contessa 1300. Had a brochure owner's manual and workshop manual for one ever since I was really young. Based on a Renault. Have a guess at who designed it ;)

Wow! Separated at birth or what?
Yet the Japanese product manages to appear more "exotic" than either a Daf or a Dolomite.
Are there any of those in the UK? If not, why not? It's gorgeous. :smitten:

I've been looking for one for years... only a handful left, mostly in Japan and New Zealand. A Japanese friend of mine has been trying to source one for me for nearly 4 years without luck!

There is one in the Science Museum in London, but I think that's the only one that's here... Around 30 were sold in the UK in 1965/1966. DVLA don't have any registered. Probably because they had a unique engine and service parts have been pretty much extinct from new...

It was designed by Michelotti in 1964, based upon a Renault, hence rear engined. I've never been able to tell what came first, the 1300FWD or the Contessa. But they're both from the same pen

It's an absolutely beautiful car, number 1 on my 'wish list' :)

well, not on my all time list of classics, but while we are talking about sisters, brothers and uncles, the Mazda 1500 bore a strong family resemblance to the dolomite

bertone design, circa 1965.

all the dolomite elements are there, the cut forward on the c-pillar, the wrap around rear bumper, the headlight arrangement, vents in the bonnet, even the dash was woodgrained and similar to the dolomite, although it boasted a 2500-like multi gauge.

always thought the mazda 1500 was close to the dolomite in styling. Not sure whether they made it to the UK. Apparently the 1800 version was good for 100mph+ and a much praised car.

The reason these cars all look the same is because they are boxes with virtually no style.

Having said that one of my wants would be a race tuned A35.

Exotic cars are so beyond my wallet I just do not think of them.

I was horribly dissapointed when I had a go in a V12 Etype as it was an American cruiser by any other name.
The 4.2 however was a proper sportscar with a sports feel.

Some of the iconic cars are most likely awfull to live with.

I have a soft spot for a Daimler Dart even though its ugly.

 That thing is painfully beautiful to my eyes. I want one. Now! Don't care if it has no engine and can't actually be driven, I still want one.

Sadly, I suspect that it's worth a little more than the contents of my piggy bank.
