Post subject: Sealey PPX power probe?
PostPosted: Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:56 pm
I've bought a Sealey PPX power probe for under 20 pounds and it's brilliant at powering up horns, lights etc, but the instructions that came with the tool do not mention how to check for a bad ground.

Can anyone advise how to check for a bad ground?

Also there is a negative switch button, is that something to do with testing grounds?

The negative is used the same as the positive, you can use it if you need to provide an earth for someting, or as i did the other day i powered up the lights on a TR4 as its positive earth.
There should be a switch on the side should you trip it out. and an extra wire sometimes to test continuity

Thanks for replying

There must be an auto trip installed because there is no switch on my model, despite clearly showing a circuit breaker trip in the picture of the PPX on the packaging.

So am I correct in assuming that if one of the components has a bad ground, I can connect the PPX up and press the 'negative' power button to supply a new ground and the item will power up?

You got it!
Mine is similar but i think mine is blue point or snap on. It has a small trip button on the right hand side, so maybe yours is different. They are a very handy tool. I have found it especially usefull when someones electric window switch has packed up and its a quick way to close the window
