 Post subject: Stainless Steel Pipe
PostPosted: Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:54 pm
I am planning to convert an old mangle into a printing press for linocuts. In doing so, I need to sleeve the wooden rollers with seamless stainless steel, in order to provide an even and firm pressure. In doing so, I will turn the rollers down on a lathe to fit tightly inside the sleeves, such that the external diameter of the sleeved rollers remains much as before.

However, I've been looking at the price of heavy gauge stainless steel pipe, and am rather taken aback by the cost, especially as I'm trying to build the press on a shoestring. What I'm looking for is two lengths of seamless stainless steel pipe:
- each 50.5 cm long
- of c.4 inches external diameter
- of a good thickness, no less than 5mm I think

Does anyone please have anything approximating to the above that I could acquire from them, or have any suggestions as to where I can get the same, without breaking the project bank? Many thanks.

Regards.
