Oddly my new car has both a proper dipstick and an electronic one. To use the electronic one means running the engine when warm for about 90 secs while it reads the oil level. To use the manual dipstick takes half that time. Needless to say I use the proper one.
All the electronics in modern cars just dont sit easy with me at all, im glad of my couple year old daily car dont get me wrong, but you have to wonder dont you, i mean the concept of purely an electronic dipstick to me is utter madness...its only a matter of time before it goes on the bugle. My boss,s new A4 Quattro has no proper dipstick. I cant see there being many old modern cars in years to come (certainly not like our Dollys) as the electronics will all have expired
