Apparently a good comparable English expression is "bad pennies always turn up", because it's translated better (and less literal) as 'bad weeds grow quickly' according to my Dutch friend Mr Twiss.

Expressions are a wonderful thing, my Spanish mother used to say 'tocar las narices' which directly translates as 'touch your nose' when she meant to say get out of town and shut the door!

That is not a good comparable translation. The weed in the saying is not meant as weed that is unwanted or bad in your garden. It means that something what is persistent like weed wil alway's grow again. So it's more that nothing can stop you and you will allway's return no matter someone has done to you or has happenend to you. The term "weed/onkruid" is a twink to someone naughty.

They're not far from me, but I always go to Moss as I tend not to get insulted by the staff there ;)
