Anyone know anything about these please?
I've been asked to help replace one which has a rip in it.
Firstly, how many different sizes did they come in,and how are they measured? This one measures 43.5 inches x 38 inches-this is the bit visible on the car roof with the roof shut. Have been offered a replacement which is 42 inches x 36 inches off the car,but I suppose they stretch when they are fitted and fully closed.
Secondly, can the sliding part be removed without disturbing the frame? I think that if the headlining at the rear is dropped and the securing nuts are undone this should be possible.
Lastly, anyone know a way of opening one that refuses to budge without breaking something? The handle moves so far but not enough to open the roof. Have tried penetrating fluid, but can't get to the mechanism very well. It is ripped,so the fabric could be cut if need be.
It is a proper Tudor Webasto one,and a bit different to a Britax one which I fitted several years ago.
Thanks in advance.
James

I've yet to work out why mine is so stiff to slide back, it's a get out the car and bash each side eventually back, but everything looks in good nick clean with a light grease. Anyway, to the point, this crowd not far from me are apparently good.

The Weathershields/Britax roof came in about 6 sizes when I was fitting them back in the 70s, the "A" roof was the size for a Mini or Herald, the "B" roof was the one used on Dolomites and similar mid sized saloons, the "C" roof went into larger saloons like Jag XJ6 and I only ever fitted one "D" roof, that was to a '66 Chevy Impala! The other 2 were, IIRC, F or G and H, The "H" roof was little bigger than a letterbox and was used in TR7 hardtops and the "G" was a bit bigger, though shorter than an "A", this found a home in GT6s, amongst others.
Sadly I can't now remember any dimensions (if I ever knew them, we didn't have to measure the holes we cut, templates were provided) In fact we only ever got one critical measurement provided per car, that being from the back edge of the screen rubber to the front of the template, then measure to make sure the template is in the middle (which doesn't need a listed figure) scribe round the template and hack away.
All the roof stiffeners were hand made by the fitter for the individual car and everything was done by the sound engineering principal, "If it LOOKS right, it probably IS right" - which probably accounts for the fact that, the first time it rained after the long hot summer of '76, we got dozens of cars back for leak rectification!

The Tudor roof is actually quite rare (though Webasto has become the generic name for a sunroof of this type) mainly because it was nearly twice the price of the Weathershields one. I can't help much with that as I never worked on a Tudor roof, but I would guess that the dimensions would not exactly match any other makers kit. Not a guess is that, though the top will stretch lengthways when closed, maybe up to an inch max, the width will not be affected AT ALL. So you may not have the correct roof for your hole.

Steve, I don't suppose there is any adjustment in the opening width is there, my runners jam on the side? Maybe my car is just shrinking..!

There is NO effective width adjustment, the hole governs where the side rails fit and though you could loosen the funny screws and give the rails a whack, I suspect it won't do you much good! But before you give up, just check that the rails (which are a channel, kind of a deep U on its side) have not closed up and are pinching the plastic runners in the vertical plane. This could have the effect you describe! Best I can do without seeing it.

Thank you for the replies and information.
From what I remember of the Britax ones they are quite different to the Webasto ones.
Out of interest in 1992 you could have a 36x30 inch Britax one fitted for £280.
