Outlived the Dolomite indeed!

http://www.hondawanderer.com/43175_Radley_1989.htm

Wonder if it's still about to prove them wrong?!

Can't make out the number plate, but did find that the train is still running in 2016.

I'm sure someone will remember the Dolly, or be the owner.

Might have to contact the website owners for a better picture, this is going to nag me
all day now.

Looks like it starts FWL

I know what you mean, zoomed straight in to see if I could make out the number plate, mate of mine (who sent it to me) says that as it was Radley, it might be WL for Oxford?

Could be, almost certain that it's something WL, can't we just keep guessing random letters?! I tried zooming, and enhancing like they do on all the best spy films, and it looks exactly the same. Thought the owner was probably the shirtless guy strutting up the road, but looking now seems like there's someone sat inside, and It's probably an 1850 because of the badge size? Right, that's enough Jessica Fletchering for now, I've got an unstable VPN tunnel to sort out!

Good effort Mahesh, and I know what you mean when something bugs you and you have to find out.

Interesting !
I can certainly offer a likely candidate that is still around.
CWL 619 V
A white Sprint.
And yes, the " WL " bit is Oxfordshire, and specifically mine came from Hartwells of Oxford who were a Triumph specialist in those days.
The front spoiler has had a colour change; its now black, but another interesting point would be which way round the indicator / sidelamp lenses are. CWL is reversed with the indicators on the outside.
At the Triumph Anniversary event at Gaydon we met EWL ??? ? also a white Sprint. So another possibility.
I had a scan through the 1999 Membership list and the only white Sprints are CWL and 2 in EWL. Carl's 1500 is also listed under YWL; did it have a black vinyl roof ?
Are Scott and Jenni still on here ? The previous owners of CWL ?
I would also be interested to see a better res; photo.
Tony.

I received a reply to my email as follows,

Hi,

Not particularly hi-res I'm afraid, as this is from a 35mm slide.

Regards,

Martin

I'd have thought that it was a Sprint because of the vinyl roof. Having said that my Dolly 1300 had a vinyl roof so it could well be an 1850.

:o If they had a proper scanner then it would be a very high resolution,
certainly good enough to allow the number plate to be legible
(given that the focus is correct and the lens used was a decent quality).

Unfortunately I'm at a different work premises at the moment, as soon as I return to base I will email to Raf, and connect my pc to the 85" tv, and check again.

The main problem is the photographer was obviously more concerned with the picture focus for the train.

Perhaps this should have gone into the 'was it you' forum section?!

With Mahesh sourcing a slightly higher quality version from the owner and with much squinting and playing around with Photoshop levels, sharpening and prodding of pixels with a sharp stick :poke: by both of us last night we are almost certain that the number plate in the picture is *drum roll please* EWL 601V, which happily DVLA says is a white Triumph first registered 7th May 1980 and best of all taxed and with a MOT (mats, flaps and petrol level status unknown), so only 9 years old in that picture. I think recognition needs to go to MIG Welder who pretty much called it right originally!

I doubt Martin the website owner is going to change his caption now, after all with 204,003* Dolomites built and <1000 remaining he was on to a winner with that caption. And if anyone is interested in locomotives and rolling stock (a train only when joined) then I can recommend Martins website, and a visit to one of the National Railway Museum sites.

Raf, I think this thread is fine where it is. The "was it you" section is for people who have actually seen a Dolly when out and about rather than a photo from years back with a Dolly in the background.

Is the Dolly owner known to anyone?

Would be nice to get a current picture.

EWL201V is also a white Sprint...as is EWL202V, both were local cars to here a few years ago...

Both on the '97 list...
