You could scrap it and get a very reasonable trade in against a new Dacia. Problem solved and another one drive's a Duster.

Dacia = a poor mans Renault built even more cheaply and with less quality parts, with more corners cut than the cars made in France (IMO). Not sure how a Dacia can be a step up, I guess it will get a 'cult' following but I'd rather drive a Lada Niva.

This outer CV joint is the last problem and I will get it sorted one way or another. I chose this particular car because I wanted another Citroen MPV in the spec that I wanted (2.0 HDi in Exclusive trim) and it had a towbar already fitted so I could tow my caravan. I transport some of my partner's grandchildren and it comes in handy for those tip runs.

On a more positive note, the aircon is still working so I can safely say that it is fixed.

Well I completely disagree with you regarding Dacias. My fathers in laws old Dacia 1310 (basically a Renault 12) lasted 27 years driving on Romanian roads all over the country before it eventually gave up with a cracked chassis in 2010. We traded it in and bought him a brand new Logan 1.4. The chassis is the same as a Renault Clio as is the engine, the suspension comes from a Nissan Micra. After 7 years of being driven over potholed Romanian roads in all seasons (it really snows properly out there!) it still runs and drives perfectly and has no signs of any rust. It's a simple cheap car and does it's job with no pretence.

I was considering buying a Sandero to do the school run and errands before deciding to use RUK.

Well a Skoda (or Seat) may be a poor mans VW, it's still 5 times the car that a Renault is, let alone a poor mans Renault (ie Dacia)

Though saying that, a Dacia may actually be better than a Renault, by virtue of being simpler! Simple, rugged and cheap, if these are things that appeal to you in a car then you could do worse than buy a Dacia.

But don't expect to see ME driving one anytime soon, i'm not ready to sell out and give up yet! Even my so called daily driver is now 22 years old and was built in Britain!

Give me simple every time! I went on a track day yesterday; a wealthy property developer Client exclusively hired the Anglesey Circuit and invited various friends and consultants. There was a chap with a fast Golf of some description; it had a radar sensor which prevented him getting too close to the guy in front as it automatically started applying the brakes (well, that was his excuse) and another chap with a BMW M4 GTS...who had to use a chock under his wheels in the pit lane until his brakes cooled down, as if he'd used his handbrake the pads could apparently have fused to the discs!!!

Okay incorrect figurative speech used,wasn't intending to annoy or offend,it was just an opinion. Not trying to be a snob, I think I am often swayed by our capitalist society based on growth, to constantly do better,to have better,to have more, a constant strive for improvement etc. But that's just me and my opinion.

Getting back on topic, I took the driveshaft back and I was able to get it exchanged. I'm hoping that this one will fit!

Aircon is still ice cold. Just in time for the "Indian summer" that we're supposed to be having.

I tried to fit the driveshaft today. The good news is that the splines on the outer CV joint fit into the hub. There was something not quite right with the intermediate bearing so I took it back out and compared it with the old driveshaft.

It was soon obvious that the bearing is too wide so I was unable to fit the retaining plate because the bearing sticks out by about 4mm. I've had to take the driveshaft back and I explained the problem to them and they're going to get it exchanged again so this little saga continues...

One could say no 2 Citroens are the same and be close to the truth, but I had a similar problem with a Rover 75 driveshaft, my supplier, a Rover "specialist" breaker, only sent me the correct one on the 5th try!

That intermediate bearing has been the same (smaller) size on Citroens and Peugeots for more years than I care to think about, I can't imagine why they've changed it. It's certainly not a common fail part, I think i've only changed one in all my years in the trade!

Are they, by any chance, Shaftec branded?
If so we have had more trouble with this brand than any other, their quality control is a joke....
We ordered 3 CV joints for a Corsa last week, one after the other, same part number. Only the last one didnt have badly cut splines and actually fitted!

I can't remember what was on the box. I don't normally have issues with this particular motor factor (I've been using them for over 20 years) and their customer service is second to none.

I've also had problems with Shaftec products being wrong several times on supply and a couple of fitting issues too down to poor QC.
