Always keep looking for the good things in bad situations. As it's the same side you don't have to type allover again. Just copy and paste some old posts about the replacement. Jeroen |

The motor factor wouldn't exchange the driveshaft but they've provided me with a new CV boot and the proper clips. I've farmed out the job to the local garage because I don't particularly relish the prospect of replacing an outer CV boot in sub-zero temperatures in ankle deep snow. I just hope that I don't have to have the outer CV joint replaced as well... |

The extreme weather meant that it didn't get done yesterday so I'm without transport for another day. I've decided to get the CV joint replaced as well for peace of mind. |

If you are getting the joint from the same motor factor..... I would not bother Tony. |

No danger of that. The garage will be sourcing it elsewhere. It wasn't the CV joint that was the problem. It was the failure of the boot that let the grease out and the nasties in. |

But what about the boot? As I mentioned elsewhere, if you use the one given to you it WILL fail. Spend a tenner on a genuine OEM or similar boot. No idea at all why the factors won't change it. They ought to. Obviously they have zero customer care. |

The new CV joint should come with a new boot. If it doesn't, use a Duraboot stretchy boot but fit it without stretching it - i.e. knock the old joint off the shaft, slide boot onto shaft, use half the supplied grease to fill the void of the new joint, half to the inside of the boot, knock the new CV joint onto the shaft, position the boot and fit the supplied clips. I have replaced hundreds of CV boots with Duraboots in this way, they last forever if fitted like this because they are designed to stretch over the joint but if you fit them without stretching they last indefinitely. |

The garage ended up fitting a new CV boot instead of the one I supplied because it wouldn't fit properly. The CV joint was fine so it didn't need to be replaced. I'm hoping that's the end of this little saga. |

I'd be driveshafting it right up their arses if any of my suppliers did this to me
