Selling £1 coins on ebay for £2.95 each.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cheap-Cheerfu ... 2395570668

Or sometimes £3.95 each.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Round-1-One-P ... 1484922968

And look how many they have sold!

I'm in the wrong job...

If you look out for the kew garden's £2 coin these usually sell for between £90 and £120 if you can get one as very rare.

We have a £2 coin here, the Lord Kitchener with mint errors worth around £300

There's money to be had but I just like the hobby

Cheers

Darren

I see that 2p coins that have "Two New Pence" on them are worth more than the later "Two Pence" ones. Something to do with joining the EU, decimalisation thingy from the early 70's.
Not sure what the price of copper is but there was a time when the weight of the coins was worth more in scrap value than face value also.

Just my 2pence worth :)

Better than leaving the money in the bank! Though there must be very few people who'd want to pay over the odds for a £1 coin, especially a 'used' one.

I'm guessing the majority of those bidders are coin collectors from overseas

Well I've just had a rummage in my pockets and dug out some loose change, and find myself in the enviable position of having a genuine 1995 Dragon Passant One Pound Coin that you can have for £2.50 inc P&P, as on that ebay listing for £2.95 +79p P&P, so mines a bargain!

As with the ebay seller, "Please note they have been through circulation and we leave the cleaning to you”

I'll see what change I get tomorrow and might return with another bargain quid, but does anyone know if a 2016 20p with a squiggle that could be a child's rendition of a horses head on it, and a 2p coin from 2014 with a heraldic lion on it be worth 'owt?

PS. With a nod to Dazasdolly, rare coin collecting I can see the point of, as with stamps and any such hobby where there is clearly enjoyment to be found here for some that I am not diminishing.

My stepson collects 50p pieces and has over 50 different ones. It's just fun for him, but he's always skint, does anyone know of any particularly valuable ones? He might be sitting on more money than he thought!

The Kew gardens 50p is worth more than a score on Ebay,
it's the one with the pagoda on it.

The Olympic 50p coins are thinning out as well.

It's more of a question of time to make money, but coins are a good way, draw couple of hundred pounds from bank in coins, pick out the sellable ones and bank the rest, and keep repeating.

Your stock never loses value.

This is quite a good place to get lots of info:
https://www.facebook.com/ChangeChecker/?ref=br_rs

Ebay is the source for pricing, but the main race at the moment is £1 coins as they go out of circulation this year. And certain coins are reaching £25 quid a pop.

Cheers

Darren

p.s I do it as a hobby and receive a lot of coins from clients, the royal mint sell folders for the different denominations with a brief description of each coin.

The one to look out for is the swimming one from the London olympics, there were two designs, the one with bubbles coming out of the swimmers mouth is very sought after as it wasn't struck in large amounts

The other rare one is the football one denoting the offside rule very very very rare and worth a few bob

Cheers

Darren

For that very reason, I believe that more recent "coppers" are actually steel with a copper coating. Who'd have thought it - magnetic copper coins!
