No, though you could use sidelights I guess and just wire them to the ignition. But proper DRLs have 21 watt bulbs in the front, not the 5w of normal sidelights and these go out when sidelights are turned on.

Daytime running lights are dangerous to motorcyclists; the idea of motorbikes running with DRLs is they stand out from other traffic. If all traffic has DRL then you no longer see the bike again.

Don't do it.

I take offense to this as most bikers are a danger to themselves but more importantly other road users. Notice that I've said most.
So what if a car wants to be safer and more visible, surely that's a car designer's prerogative. If bikers want to be safer, they should buy a car!

As a biker, I disagree with your statement.

As a car driver, i fully agree with this! Most bikers do not help themselves.

I think this discussion should be removed as there are many car drivers that feel as strongly as I do about motorcycles being dangerous but not as dangerous as the majority of their riders.
I think this topic will cause a rift. I know of some bikers who are mature and wait in traffic and actually do ride safely so to those of you on this forum who have taken offense to my replies, I apologise.
Whether you drive or ride, do it safely with thoughts for other road users.
Mark.

According to Groupama Insurance "...the main cause of accidents on motorcycles is other road users either changing direction or emerging from a junction...", and that 80% of motorcycle accidents were caused by other road users.

"Injuries to motorcyclists are out of proportion to their presence on our roads. Motorcyclists are just 1% of total road traffic, but account for 19% of all road user deaths."

Yes, I do also ride a motorcycle. I think that this thread should remain so as to educate forum readers who have the same perception that Marko has.

Surely a moot point as all new cars have DRLs, and have for a few years? probably 1/3rd of the cars on the road, and increasing.
I am seriously thinking about them for my spitfire, as despite being bright yellow many people are unable to see it

So in other words we are wrong?
Every single day i get overtaken in heavy traffic by motorcyclists hell bent on suicide by blasting up the middle of a road at high speed. DRLs or no DRLs someone only has to change lanes and they will be a goner.
Sorry, but in my opinion most Bikers need to change their habits, not the other way around!

Which is why I ride as if every other road user is out to kill me!

My bike has 2 55 watt headlights permanently illuminated, and STILL people do not see it, regardless of road position and speed.

Yes, there are some bikers, like car drivers, who treat the road like a track.

I'm not one if them, the majority of bikers aren't.

I have a car with a motorcycle engine in it, so I'm now going to have a row with myself

Daytime running lights are nothing new, Volvos had them on UK market cars as early as 1976. And most european and scandinavian moderns have had them for the last few years. Now we all get dazzled by badly aligned lights in the daytime as well as at night!
I was never a fan of the DRLs on my Volvo 240s, even though they were 21w non dazzling bulbs in the sidelights, I just hate wasting electricity! I am even less of a fan now when DRLs are dipped headlights.

I've been a motorcyclist, they are horribly vulnerable, appear suddenly and sometimes take serious liberties with road traffic law. I was fortunate enough to escape my teenage biking years with nothing more than a few interesting scars! Its unsurprising that ER staff call them "donors". But I don't think DRLs on cars will kill any more bikers - it might even save a few, since the biker might be able to better see the car and take evasive action.

I've just installed two DRL's in my Sprint grilles.

Hopefully pedestrians will now see this bright
yellow car and stop stepping out in front of it.

Even though the Sprint is noisier than a modern,
headphones are getting larger and better at
noise cancelling.

In 95% of accidents involving a bike, the first six words uttered by the car driver are 'SMIDSY'

"Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You"
