shouldn't be allowed to sell cars like that, someone is buying the I.D and one will no doubt go missing in the near future.

"Collect in person"

Should have also suggested bringing a shovel and a bucket.

Nice how they positioned the nearside door to make the mind fill in gaps to give it the appearance of a more complete vehicle. They are actually selling a couple of doors and rear quarters, not even 1/2 a car!

The thing is, with the remanufactured parts that are now available for the MkI Escort, that car IS restorable! Sure it would be skating a fine line between "restoration" and "replica" - but it's do-able! And with values so high for better spec 'scorts, it's probably financially viable too!

So please folks, put the pitchforks and torches away!

...... and if it is the Motoring News car (and it looks like it from the body additions and the originally pale yellow paint) it is also actually a historically quite important car in Escort circles.

A number of mates of mine are obsessive about these things (I am not sure why, but there you go), and the MN car has been the subject of much discussion in the past.

I agree with Steve, that the amount of the original car that ends up left after restoration is a moot point, but it can and no doubt will be rebuilt.

It's not a restoration though is it, it would be more of a reconstruction from donor parts. (Still waving a pitch fork).

It's now above £16k so we can agree on who is definitely going to make a hefty profit!

I love the Q&A bit at the bottom and method of shipping!

Q: Hello!!Just needed the chassis number off the car. Do you ship to Norway if I win the auction. Best regards Knut Ole Gaptjern.
A: hi , will ship to Norway, chassis number bb49***** could flat pack if required..

When Chris Gunby took the Herald hatchback out of my back garden (complete with the obligatory tree growing through it) there was rather less of it than there is of this Escort. 18 months of Jigsaw racing's time and tens of thousands of pounds later, it lives and breathes again and is universally admired. No pitchforks on that one!
Is it just because it's an Escort? In any case this car IS historically significant, the price it is already commanding shows that. When it re-appears, probably in MN livery and with the correct twin cam motor, it will have had an enormous amount of money spent. You couldn't just steal one of these cos it's one of a kind and too famous! I reckon the only person who will get rich off this is the guy currently selling it!

It'll probably look beautiful when they've moved the chassis number to another car..

Maybe, but I don't think it is that easy nowadays,
all of they high performance Escorts had a unique shell (type 49),
even the bog standard Mexico model is very serious money today,
so, hmm, to use one as a donor......... :?: ?
Surely anybody laying out that kind of money will know how to identify the shell?

I have been into the ford scene for some years and on forums such as passionford, member of the RS owners club etc, i can confirm that you never know who is behind the user name, having had my 3Dr cosworth stolen and then seeing the rare Azev A wheels pull into one of the meets, i know all about type 49 shells, 909 shells etc and i wouldn't be surprised if the ID found its way onto a borrowed or slightly borrowed donor, my pitch fork is in hand.
