Steve brought up an interesting point earlier for those of us that live / work / drive near London.

There are currently 4 separate charges. At the time of writing.
1. The London Congestion charge.
2. The new T-charge.
3. The Dart River crossing ( M25 on the east side )
4. The LEZ charge.

1. It looks like all Historic cars pay the London congestion charge.

2. The new T-charge.

There is a vehicle checker. I put my reg; in and it comes up as exempt ! Woo-Hoo :D

3. Dartford River crossing.

Looks like I have to pay this still. See about 2/3 way down under Exemptions . Historic doesn't get a mention.

4. LEZ charge.
Looks like this is for older HGV's but Historics get exemption.

So its cheaper for me to drive in London than my eldest with his modern Renault.

If I go into town I go on my motorbike, no congestion charges, no traffic jams and mostly free parking, result! :)

Why would there be an exemption for Dartford, its a toll crossing?
And the LEZ for doesn't apply to cars of any age as its for commercial vehicles so you only have to pay the congestion charge and any tolls if you take an older car into London.

So whats the issue?

And also,

Since when has the Dartford Crossing been in London?

The ULEZ will apply to cars though, but historic fleet vehicles are exempt.

So as a driver of an historic car you only have to pay the C charge. but who in their right mind wants to drive a car in central London anyway when its cheaper and quicker to use park outside and use public transport?

Like I said, personally I either bike in, or take the train but I would not impose my decisions on others who may have any number of reasons personal to them as to why they would drive within the congestion zone.
