Those of you who do not have access to the Members' section may not be aware that Jon lost his battle with cancer last week, passing away on Friday morning. I had spoken with him a week before and he told me he was at peace and resigned to the inevitability of his by then deteriorating situation. I was away last week and had hoped to see him at least once more, but it was not to be.

I am in contact with the family and will post details of the arrangements, once I hear they have been made.

sad news, I met up with him last year to buy some spares.
I heard the saying 'when a man dies you lose a library' certainly the case with Jon and his knowledge of cars etc.

RIP Jon, Gone far too soon, I'll never forget all the invaluable help you have given me over the years and the tongue in cheek replies.

Poor Jon,
He was a great font of knowledge especially in respect of "our" cars and always good for a bit of diverse humour.
He is a sad loss to the people who use this forum.
Rest In peace Jon.

Aw, how sad. He seemed so up-beat recently, I was hoping for good news.
I will certainly miss his incredible knowledge of our cars. A real loss for his family and the forum.

Having a few minutes at my disposal today, I did a little research in the Forum archives and discovered the following:-

Jon joined the forum in October of 2006, only 2 weeks after it's inception, the 47th person to do so and was one of only 15 of the original 50 members still active today. But his post count of 11470 posts is unequalled in forum history and only closely rivalled by Alun Nicholas (xvivalve) nobody else comes close!

His vast knowledge and dry humour were a boon to all here, whether newbie or long term member, he always had words of wisdom and advice for those who needed it. And his legacy is still here, for those who seek it, in these pages.

Though we never met in person, I have come to regard Jonners as a good friend and occasional sparring partner throughout my 7 years on the forum.

Vaya con Dios mate!

Oh no. Thats very sad news. Jon was a character, sometimes a little outspoken, but i had a very enjoyable day with him at the nec a few years back and he was a very decent chap. A very sad loss to the dolomite world. Rip jon.

Very sad news, always a great source of knowledge and help. He even assisted in my receiving of a Dolly Sprint alloy wheel and a replacement windscreen despite living at the opposite end of the country to me!

RIP Jon.

I just created this account purely so I can post this.

Many people have taken the time to message me about the sad news regarding Jon, as there doesn't appear to be anywhere else to place a tribute I will leave it here:

I "knew" Jon (as many of you did) from this forum. Forthright, a man who knew his own opinion, a man of both generosity and faith (I am sure the later saw him through his terrible illness).

Personally he helped me with his advice and was building up a pair of carburetors for me (free of charge of course), I enjoyed his banter (especially when it came to Acclaim and Saffron coloured cars!) his online presence was always worth seeking out.

The world of Dolomites is now a sadder place without him.

Rest in Peace Jon Tilson.

It appears my earlier posting was a little too subtle.

A thanksgiving service will be held for Jonners on Friday 02 March at 12 mid day at:

Chessington Evangelical Church
Coppard Gardens
Chessington
KT9 2GZ

I am aiming to attend.
