I've almost run out of Loctite 243 so I had a look on-line for some more. I went straight to Ebay where I found plenty, very cheap. Looking at the bottles I couldn't find one which had the correct NSF and other certifications on them. Most of them had Chinese writing on and the sellers, although supposedly in the UK, are actually based in China or Hong Kong. I decided I couldn't rely on this being the genuine stuff and managed to find some on Amazon.

Its surprising how much fake stuff is out there especially considering with lower cost, low volume items. I guess they hope that a dealer/ trader will see a bargain and order a million of them.

I've even seen fake branded cable ties that cost less than 2pence each.

Tetrosyl Express sell various Loctite thread locks, they trade as 'Motorworld' and a lot of small car accessory shops stock tetrosyl products so there may be one local to you.

Guess what arrived today? Yes, a non genuine bottle of Loctite 243. I paid nearly £13 for this believing (going by the picture) that it was the genuine thing. I could have got the same stuff from Ebay for £3.50. Guess who's just got a stiff email?

Maybe it was made by the (German) Henkel by their Asia Pacific division and a grey import for a product meant for that market? Just saying, no idea either way.

Yes. Apparently this was a reputable company I bought the Loctite from who sell thousands of bottles of it to companies, including some formula racing teams. Loctite have a factory in China so they import it from there. But they said that they have seen the stuff on Ebay and it is obviously fake at the price they are selling it for.
