Rob, I hope you'll be able to venture "oop north" during your visit. It is quite civilized up here.
OH yes. We'll definitely be spending a few days up north.
We toured around the UK in 2007 and from memory, spent a few days looking around places like Castle Howard, Whitby, Goathland and spent far too much time in the National Railway Museum. We did find civilization extended that far and we were treated very well indeed. As a matter of fact, I cant remember anyone being unkind to we Aussies anywhere in the UK.
I know that there is lots to see around Yorkshire, so we'll definitely be back. We are also planning on going WAaaaaay up north to the Orkneys too. Part of a Rabbies tour just before we visit the Tattoo.
BTW....An Anglophile friend who lives not far from me (who owns the sole remaining Ferguson Diesel powered Vanguard Station Wagon in this country), spent all 3 days at the event a coupe of years back. Club members have nicknamed him Sir Stirling. Anyway, between the good advice on this thread and long conversations with him, we've booked our Revival tickets.....for the Saturday. Being just for the one day, we figured we'd be seeing lots of other things as well as the racing, so we chose not to buy Grandstand tickets.
So, should you see a couple of older "lost" Aussies wandering around, out of period dress, introduce yourselves. It might be us. And like the UK's Northerners, we're civilized too.
Cheers,
Rob
