And finally here's a few of the Chevette.

The Chevette was restored between May last year and February this year. its and 'L' auto and it one of about 12 still registered with the DVLA and only about half of them are still taxed. It has been restored to GL spec so now has rostyle wheels, side moldings, back panel finisher, headrests 2 door pockets etc. Its the trusty 1256 lump and has about 63K on the clock. and im owner 10. I actually met one of the previous owners at the VBOA rally at Billing in July who hadn't seen the car for about 5 years and was pleased to see it had been restored.

Its just had new springs fitted on the front, so its sitting at the right height now, the old ones had sagged very badly, but at 27yrs old it is to be expected.

This car used to live in Brierley Hill three miles from me about 5 years back, wore sparco rear flaps and the girl that drove it really made it fly; a player. I struggle to believe its standard 1500 infact. She pranged it, it needed a front wing, the steering geometry was well out on one side and needed work to the front panel. It was sold on ebay in that condition; I was watching but missed the end. It appeared on their again a couple of years later but I don't recall what happened to it then.

Don't throw those doors away the damage is only at the bottom and we do part skin repairs (£22 each including delivery to members for one) that replace everything below the lower swage, you'd need to reconstruct that passenger frame though. If you replace the doors you will be playing with shut gaps for ever and a day!

Does the Chevy front wing weld into the front panel or is there a visible seam? With a new panel as a pattern, or a very good s/h one I could look at costs of GRP wings, but if there are only 12 left it wouldn't be viable!

Thats interesting to know :shock: thanks for the info. Just cut the front panel off at the weekend, and found some interesting (to say the least) repairs on the front wing bottoms. Along with other badly weleded in repairs around the car that I have allready dealt with.

I'd say it is just a standard 1500 as it doesnt perform like anything special. Also before I got the car from York, it had previously been in Liverpool and Wales before that.

As for the Chevette wings, they are bolted wings all the way round. And GRP wings are readily available. And regards the 12 left,tas onl Automatic Saloon. There is circa 700 Chevettes left in total.

I've noticed that it has pancake filters. If it has standard needles then the mixture might be too weak hence the poor performance.

That had been suggested to me, but just havent got round round to doing anything about it yet. It came with the original air box and new paper filter, so i've always got the option to change back to that too.

welcome (belatedly) Ash to dolly ownership.

the car looks fetching in orange. You need personalised plates that say "RANGA" I reckon :)

that chevette looks quite nice, I'm not familiar with 'em, but cuts a striking line from side on. Gotta' say, you look about as comfortable in pics as I do :lol: Well done on restoring her.

The rust issues with the 1500 look significant. If you are up to doing the work yourself and have the time (and money) to fix them, it will be a great project. Are you considering going the whole hog and fixing the car entirely ?

The original plan for the car was to do a full job on it as I did with the Chevette. However currently Im considerring selling it once the welding is done and its MOT'd. But time will tell :?
