Lewis, why oh why is your mate letting his XJS fester. It doesn't look too crusty, especially around the rear arches and butresses. Shame. If I had the dosh..... don't I say that a lot

Well he's not any more, its for sale :P

Just the economic challenge of getting a V12 XJS back on the road is the reason it's sat for so long really......You know what Jags are like! Plus new tires, etc etc....One of those 'unviable' things at the time :)

I've always liked them too :)

The german pics are of a series 3 XJ6 or 12. They look the same and are great. 75 quid for one of them would be a result.

XJ40's are hideous to look at (for a jag) but I suppose are better than a granda SD1 or senator in some respects and a manual box is interesting.

Jag engines...the XK is the famous one, dohc, 2 valves per pot and anything from 2.4 to 4.2 litres. Magic lump but heavy. Virtually bullet proof except for timing chains, which give plenty of warning but are dear to sort out.

The AJ6 is in the XJS and XJ40 and is 2.9 12 valve (crap) or 3.2 and 4.0 litre 24 valve (good) and 3.6 (earlier XJS and XJ40) fair...too sorts of injection, early is poor.

The AJ16 is the best jag six of the lot but is only in late XJS's (celebrations only I think) and the X300 in 3.2 and 4.0 litre. Its quite similar to the AJ6 but has a number of improvements.

The V12's are all great with good maintenance and are practically bulletprooof... Hoses and belts are the main source of grief, apart form neglect of course, which a lot suffer from.

Any old XJS is a money pit. Can be run relatively cheaply if bought with decent ticket and treated as disposable.
